First Week With Three Guides

Our first week was fantastic! We are new to HOD and I was a bit worried about doing 3 guides plus a different curric with my son who has special needs. We are using Rev2Rev, Preparing, and Beyond. When I made my schedule this summer, it looked pretty intense---every minute of the school day was acco...

Re: HOD with a child who has high functioning autism /Asperger

My 12 yo ds has Asperger's and nonverbal learning disorder (another challenge on the spectrum.) He also has cerebral palsy, but the Asperger's/NVLD is by far the greater disability. We are new to HOD this year. His siblings are doing Revival to Revolution, Preparing, and Beyond. I was going to put h...

Re: You've all convinced me....

Thanks for the great ideas! I picked through a bunch of HOD books at the 2nd-3rd grade level and chose ones I thought he would do well with. I am going to pair these with some kind of 2nd grade American history textbook (because he does great with nonfiction) that he can read independently and do no...

You've all convinced me....

...to stick with Beyond for dd (6.5) next year. But now that leads to another question....what do I do with ds (12)? He on his own would probably place quite nicely into Bigger. However, then I would be doing FOUR guides. I don't even want to find out if that's humanly possible  so I need to ...

Re: Oh no...did I order the wrong guide?

Kristen-- No, actually ds (12) works way better with his youngest sister (6). He is closer developmentally to her than he is to his younger brother (10). The boys do not work well together :( , and I was already a bit worried about having them share the same guide. The more I look at Preparing, the ...

Re: Oh no...did I order the wrong guide?

I guess I'm less concerned about her reading level and more concerned about the activities. For math, English, and handwriting she fits right into Bigger. And I am worried that the science and history activities in Beyond might be a little too easy for her. She has been tagging along with her siblin...

Oh no...did I order the wrong guide?

I am excited to use HOD with my four children in the fall. I feel great about the placement of the oldest three, however, I am wondering if I made a mistake with my youngest. Based on the information below, what guide would you put her in? She is 6.5 and chronologically should be starting 1st grade ...

Help--Transitioning to Rev. to Rev.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions as we transition to HOD. My younger 3 will transition easily. My oldest dd will be in 7th grade in the fall and doing Revival to the Revolution. For the past two years we've used Mystery of History, and both in content and in skill dd placed right into Rev. to...

Re: Timeline Help

Thanks for all of the great ideas!! Again, just wondering if anyone knows approximately how many entries the timeline in Preparing will have. Edie says 30 by unit 20....can anyone with a finished timeline chime in? That's reasonably small---not worth buying a timeline notebook for. I think I can man...

Re: Timeline Help

Thanks for all of the great ideas!!

One more question: Approximately how many cards/entries will the timeline have? This will help me to figure out how much room I need.

Thanks again!

Re: Timeline Help

The accordian style just wouldn't work with my son with cerebral palsy---he couldn't manage it, and I want something he can use on his own. But the file folder link looks promising. Would this work with Preparing? Would there be enough room for all of the entries needed? I'm also looking at this: (L...

Timeline Help

Beyond and Preparing just arrived yesterday---yay! I'm already looking forward to next year and also can't wait to see Revival to Revolution when it arrives. I'm wondering, though, about the timeline in Preparing. I don't have a door anywhere near our school area to hang a timeline, and since I'll h...
