Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Ladies,
I apologize for not getting this next sneak peek up sooner! After the busy Christmas season, and a houseful of 24 people (between my sister and I) for the week after Christmas, and then 10 days of my whole family down with the influenza, I have gotten behind in my intended sharing of the sneak peeks.
So, as I'm starting to mend a bit health-wise, I thought I'd share our next sneak peek. Bible study is such an important area and one that we have spent an unbelievable amount of time researching and trying various options. For the new world geography guide, we are thrilled to share that we will scheduling Rooted & Grounded from Deeper Roots Publications for the Bible Study portion of the guide each day.
This is a serious Bible study that my own oldest son did as a freshman, and one that we can recommend wholeheartedly. Here is the description:
ROOTED AND GROUNDED is a Bible based study appropriate for a full year of Bible for high school aged students. The study is non-denominationally Protestant with the focus primarily on reading and reflecting upon Scripture itself.
Featuring 27 of Julie Bosacker’s beautiful sketches, an unreached people group begins each unit’s Bible study. Students are also introduced to world missions as they move from biblical knowledge to spiritual application in these topical studies. Geographical, cultural, and prayer information are included as well, making it easy to pray for each unreached people group as you move through the study.
Concepts like Walk as Jesus Walked, A Pure and Holy Life, Servanthood, Unrealistic Expectations, The Principles of Relationship and Fellowship, and Submission and Obedience to Authority, are some of the lesson titles presented in an appealing and easy-to-use format.
Students are required to read directly from the Scripture to complete the Rooted and Grounded Student Workbook. Often Scripture cross-references are used as well. The workbook gives the student plenty of room to write the answers to the corresponding inductive questions, to fill in appropriate blanks, and to record the things that God is revealing to him/her.
There is a memory challenge with each lesson and a memory challenge review schedule included in the student and teachers guide. Lessons include writing assignments when appropriate. Reviews at the end of each lesson can be used as quizzes if preferred. An optional test booklet is available too. Enjoyable artwork illustrates each lesson.
The Teacher's Guide is a necessary component containing all student material, a 46 page Appendix of Bible verses used in the lessons (in both NIV and KJV), and notes/answers for questions students complete within the lessons. While the study can be completed on its own, students will benefit from interaction with a parent when possible.

Carrie, this looks wonderful! I never knew something like this existed! Thank you again for finding the very best of the best for us to use. I was pondering this post as I was vacuuming a few minutes ago, and I realized how truly thankful I am that not only will this be included as part of the curriculum, but that you will schedule it so nicely for us to use and I don't even have to think about how to do that! Your scheduling and tying everything together is worth millions to me - if I had millions, I would send them your way!! Continuing to pray that God blesses your work and your family. I was praying for your health this past week and never knew that you all were sick, so I guess God prompted that!

Wow Carrie looks great. This is one I have not seen. I like the fact that it has the teacher's guide and it gives opportunity for interaction with me.

Ladies,
Thanks so much for thinking of my family as we heal! I'm so excited about this Bible study. It truly is an amazing trip into God's Word each day and is a wonderful way for our children to deepen their relationship with our Lord and become even more rooted and grounded in their faith.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
I have a quick question about this guide in general. If a child has done some (but not a full year) Geography in 9th grade, would you still recommend this guide for a 10th grade year or should we go with something else? I do realize that traditionally Geography is a 9th grade subject.

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
inHistiming,
This guide can definitely be used with a 10th grader (and can even be used with 11th and 12th graders for geography with some modifications in the language arts, math, and science).
This is because geography is a typical high school requirement for graduation, so it doesn't matter in which year the requirement is completed. It does vary from state to state as to whether a semester or a full year of geography is required. However, even in states that only require a semester of geography, having more than what is required still counts for geography credit.
You'd just want to be sure that if you do the geography guide for 10th grade that you would still be able to get in the needed credits for American history, world history, government, and economics before graduation.
Blessings,
Carrie

So which history subjects will be covered in the following guides? He is doing Lifepac History & Geography currently, but that is really just a fill-in for the rest of the year.

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Hi! I see in the original post that this is a Bible study. My question is....is this book used daily in the independent Bible Quiet Time box or will it be used in the twice weekly study that is done with the teacher?
Thanks!
Christy.
Thanks!
Christy.
Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Christy,
Great question! This will be a daily study that the student will work through on his/her own for 4 days and then will follow-up with the parent to orally discuss the review at the end of each lesson every 5th day. This will allow the student time to get into the Word and ponder the questions the lesson asks throughout the first 4 sessions prior to discussing and meditating on the review questions each 5th day with the aid of a parent. On the parent day, we will also go over and discuss the boy/girl devotional options I shared in Sneak Peek #3 on the board too.
As part of each day's session, the student will pray for the unreached people group for the week, study the memory challenge, and complete the definitions and questions for that day through the use of God's Word. Of course, the parent will be checking the child's answers each day with the aid of a very extensive answer key, and if the parent desires to be involved daily in discussion with the child the key provides much help for that too. At the minimum though, we will plan for a 30-45 min. session with the parent every 5th day for discussion and for the boy/girl option I shared about in Sneak Peek #3.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Thanks for the quick reply, Carrie! Another quick question. I may have missed this in your other sneak peeks, so I apologize. I noticed in your response and your sneak peek 3 that the Bible study had a 5th day. Is the new guide on a 5 day plan? Thanks again!
Christy.

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World Geography Guide
Christy,
I apologize for not being clearer! The new geography guide will be a 4 day a week guide, however the Bible study has a review every 5th day. This will mean that the reviews for the Bible study will not fall on the same day of plans every week, since the HOD guide will be written for a 4 day plan and we will just steadily progress through the Bible study one day at a time. Clear as mud?
Blessings,
Carrie
