So LHFHG is on it's way!

Post by lisaha1 » Mon Jun 27, 2011 8:54 am

I bought a LHFHG cirriculum package that someone only used for 6 days. ;) I am going to use it for my 1st grader this year. I just have to get a LA's and math for him. I know he could do beyond, but LHFHG looks good and I know I can use it again for my younger children, plus I'm big into not pushing too hard as I did that with my DD and she got so frustrated. I'm not sure yet If I will use HOD for my 8 and 10 year old yet. I like having them together in MFW, but I like the looks of HOD too! Abby could do CTC, but Joshua couldn't do it. Preparing might work for both of them... I'm going to pray about it some more! ;) The Lord knows what will work best! :) I want Jesus first, Christian character built in my children first-a strong foundation in the Lord! I want whatever cirriculum will do this the best and then secondly what will be easy for our family to use and won't take all day! LOL!
My too be 1st grader had a blood test showing a possible form of muscular dyrophy (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong, it's all new to me) that they have never seen before-just last wed. This week anouther test should confirm if it was correct. If it is then there is a 50% chance that anyone of my other boys might develope symptoms too. So, I'm just holding onto the Lord and letting Him lead us, trying not to trip along the way but knowing He will lift me back up when I do trip.
Anyway, just letting you know that I'm half done in my cirriculum prayerful search! :) I'm excited to get my hands on it and see what it all has! I think maybe if I see and go through the general layout of one book it might make my choice easier for the older children! ;) This is such a fun board to read through too!
Blessings,
Lisa

Yay Lisa!! :D

It is definitely exciting to have your books on their way! (Ours should be coming from HOD this week... :D ) LHFHG is a great program! I'm sure that you'll really enjoy it with your kids. HOD has been a real blessing to our family as it does keep the Lord front and center in our homeschool days. I love how my heart is convicted and refreshed as we're in His Word throughout our days. And, I really love the way that I'm seeing my kids develop a relationship with the Lord as they're in His Word. The little discussions that come up as we're doing school have really been eternally significant in their lives - and I'm so glad that I've had the chance as their mom to have those moments with them. They grow up so fast!!

It is a big decision deciding how you're going to spend the next year with your kids! Praying for you as you think this through. It might help you decide if HOD fits what your family needs if you look at these posts by Carrie (the author). She shares some of HOD's philosophy in how the guides are written and what they teach and what that means for combining. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9344 HOD looks at combining more on a family by family basis. And, in cases with big families like yours, it would work best for you to have groups of your kids combined within HOD. It will be different than with MFW though because the HOD guides teach a lot of skills within the content areas of history and science. Your students are also led to do their work independently step-by-step through the guides. This will free you up to work with the younger ones that really need you, while also training your older ones in the much-needed skills of following thier own directions and doing much of their own reading. Our family agrees with HOD's philosophy on the way this is done, so I'm sure I'm a little biased. But, I love having all the work thought out and written out for me in the guides. If I were to use another curriculum that let me combine a larger age span of kids, I'd have some BIG gaps in skills that have not been taught to my kids that I would have to make sure I come up with a way to teach. So, in the end, I'm not sure it would be less work or less time for me. I'd rather have it all planned out and just open-and-go! :D

Lisa - if you want to combine your dc, and you want a Christ-centered curriculum - I think PHFHG would probably work great for your 8 and 10 yo! Carrie's posts are so helpful in thinking through this - I hope you get a chance to read them. I also am praying for you and your ds's health concerns. Keep leaning on the Lord -He is strong and loving! :D

In Christ,

Thank you for the prayers!
I'm thinking about starting the beganing of Sept unless we do some light stuff sooner! ;) The books arrived and they look great! I think my older DC will be reading them on thier own! ;) I'm still thinking about next year and I'm going to look at the week at a glance for Preparing!
