Using CtoC for 7th and 8th grades

Hello. Long story short...I had purchased this program for my 2 daughters last year, and although I thought it was beautiful in every way, my younger dd10 was simply not yet up to the task (she has learning disabilities). I returned it for a refund but the post office lost it in shipment and it never arrived. So I have spent an entire year feeling regretful about not just jumping in and trying it and letting younger dd do what she could do right along with her sister. Now I am considering it again for the fall. My question is: Since I have 'lost' a year, if I use it with an 8th grader, and then each package after that each year, she wouldn't do an entire beginning-end covering of all history at the high school level. Does that make sense? WWYD? Beef up this level? Start in another package? I thank you in advance for your wisdom.

We're using CTC this year for 8th grade (with the extensions for ages 12-13), and it's been wonderful and a perfect fit!
I figure if we use RTR for 9th, Rev.2 Rev. for 10th, the Modern guide for 11th, and then Geography guide for 12th (adding in American Government and Economics from another source), we should be all set through high school! Carrie has the extensions for the guides, as well as suggestions (on the board) for making the guides all high-school credit-worthy, so you should be fine with a plan similar to this!

We will be using CtC for 7th and 8th grades as well. I will probably have a plan in place like the previous poster's. Also, it will be a complete coverage of history as CtC and the next three guides (one due out in 2012) will complete a 4 year history cycle spanning creation to the present.

The ladies have done a great job of helping you! I agree that if your kiddos fit best in CTC, then that is the route I would go. Correct placement by developmental skill level will trump the history cycle or concern for completing all of our guides every time.

One other thing to ponder is whether you need to keep your two kiddos together in guide, or whether they may be better suited to being separated due to their unique differences. You may want to ponder each child's placement on the placement chart individually first to truly see where each child is at as an individual. Then, whether to combine or not, and within which program, may be even clearer. Pay the most attention to the first page of the placement chart when thinking about your kiddos.
