Now...to get started with little boy on Beyond. Methinks it may not be as easy as big boy was this morning. My older son loves school and does anything you put in front of him, whereas my younger son whines at every.little.thing. Fun fun!

Back to School!
I am in awe. My oldest son turned 11 this year and is doing 6th grade with CTC (as written...he can't handle the extras very well) and today, he actually WANTED to start back to school. He is reading the Ancients book right now and is really enjoying it!

Re: Back to School!
Yeah my son likes to whine too and then there are the days where he is on a roll and just keeps going. I think he is just always thinking of what he could be doing. even though Beyond probably doesn't take more than 2hrs out of his entire day.
He loves storytime. some times i can hold out on him and try to make it the last thing we do. We started with HF first and he is loving Little House in the BIg Woods.
We are on Unit 2 day 4 today. we went to park today for an hour and now i am worn out. With baby #4 in womb i sure feel more tired than i ever did with the other 3. i may need a nap before we get started with school!
Hope your first day goes well with 2nd son

My older two like to whine about school too.
We're on unit 2 of Beyond and I've been pleasantly surprised with the amount of complaining.
So far, they've loved all of their Learning through History activities. There's been a little hesitation with a few of the learning the basics lessons, but even that has gone fairly well. We switched from a unit study program and this is a wonderful change for all of us!
I hope your DS enjoys it too!

Hooray, Rebecca!
I'm so glad your ds is off to a good start with CTC. I bet he loves his Student Notebook - it's so beautiful!
Also a good way to visually see if they did everything (we got done with the first week of CTC and had 1 empty box)
. We'd missed the written narration. I hope your ds has a good start to Beyond too!

That's awesome!!
I'm hoping, when we start next week, that our dd (who hates school) will also start loving it again with HOD!

Re: Back to School!
That is SO FUNNY that you mention that, Julie. Along with such independence comes the art of learning to read the boxes COMPLETELY. LOL We ended the 3 day of CTC with 1 blank box (the earth, of all things), a poem painting sans the leaf and the POEM!, and (this one is a real doozy) Science questions that were numbered 1-5...with questions 1-2 being good, question 3 being 1/2 done, question 4 having the following sentence: "go to with thornt are." Re: Back to School!
Ahh, my ds is not alone in the missing box syndrome!
Yes, I do like that they need to be reading the boxes completely - such a good skill to learn. It reminds me of the time my dc put together our shoe shelves for the entry... upside-down.
Yeah, good to learn to follow directions completely and carefully. A second trip through to redo, and they usually take more care the next time (I've learned this myself).
