Your thread sounds like a great idea! We're using Guns for General Washington now because we'd already read Snow Treasure last year which was reccommended in our "pack". I LOVE Snow Treasure!! (My college professor read it to us in our "Teaching Reading" class in college, and I'd been wiating to have kids old enough to read it to.

All of us college kids loved "kids" read-alouds, too. El Ed classes are a lot of fun!) Hey, maybe you could use that as Historical Fiction instead of Adventure. They know that the gold made it from Norway to the US...but there's no proof that it actually happened. (I haven't actually done the Historical Fiction genre yet in storytime or DITHOR though, so maybe I shouldn't be throwing out advice yet.

Mary, I love to run! It keeps me sane some days.

I love to have the quiet time to think and pray. In college I started using my running time to think only of things that I'm thankful for. I still do this often. It does wonders for my outlook on the day when I take 30 min just to reflect on all I can thank God for! I live in the middle of nowhere, so I don't usually meet any vehicles on the dirt road I run on...but if it rains, I can't get out for a few days.

This winter when it doesn't get light early enough to go early I may have to tweak my schedule...recess late morning? We'll see how it's going.
If you get into a walking routine, I bet you'll have more energy. (It works for me anyway.) Maybe you can have a "Thankfulness Walk"?
