We finished up the first half of Bigger and will resume school in the fall. I started freaking out, as I always do this time of the year, wondering WHAT have we been doing? Have we actually done anything this year? Aside from my husband, we don't exactly get a lot of support in our decision to homeschool. What if I AM ruining my kids????

Does anyone relate?
I had two of my children take the 1970's online version of the CAT yesterday. I doubt this is the "best" or most "thorough" test available, but I just wanted to see how they would handle a standardized test. Again, it's not like we get a lot of support in our decision to homeschool and we all know how important those standardized test are, right?

Well, they both did extremely well. My oldest received a 9 stanine in all subjects with a 98-99 percentile ranking, and my younger daughter did almost as well. Initially, I was very happy with the results. But now that it's over and I've had time to think about it, it seems like a meaningless measurement of my children's abilities compared to what I experience with them on a daily basis.
I can't tell you how thankful I am for the opportunity to homeschool. I am thoroughly convinced my children are receiving a top notch, excellent education with HOD. My kids are learning what they need to learn in a way that's meaningful to them. The favorite part of our day is when we sit around the kitchen table and do Bible, history, hymns, and storytime. School is fun!

We have been so blessed as a family this year with the character study and verses from Proverbs. My kids are really starting to THINK and make applications and connections in all subject areas. We never rush through the science. It's been really interesting and challenging and the kids really look forward to the experiments. My husband is constantly impressed with what the children are learning and retaining. Best of all, the kids have this wonderful notebook that they really enjoy looking through.
We look forward to continuing with Bigger in the fall...then on to Preparing!!!
