"A Child's Story of America" questions...

Post by Heart_Mom » Wed May 04, 2011 12:04 pm

Hello!

We'll be doing Bigger next, and I decided that my oldest is not yet ready for the extensions, but I was considering having him just read "A Child's Story of America" on his own.

I have two questions:
1. Is that book scheduled daily in the extensions section, or just sporadically?
2. Are the assigned reading listed by page number only? I have a different edition, and if the headings/chapters are listed, I think I'll just keep what we have. But if just the page numbers are listed, I'll go ahead and buy the newer edition.

My goal is to give him a little more reading, but not as much as the full extensions would be.

I'm open to suggestions!
Blessings,
Elisabeth

It is scheduled sporadically. Last week my son read it 3 days out of the week, the week before was one day, this week it is also one day.
It does list it by page numbers.
Hope that helps!

The extensions are scheduled to match the daily readings as much as possible, so they will come and go accordingly, along with the rest of the extension packages selections. This is to maintain as much continuity as possible between the daily plans and the extensions, as well as to maintain the chronological flow of history as much as possible (just so you know why one book's pages may seem sporadic - the continuity is not within one book at a time but is instead in the flow of history, as well as in the flow of all of the books being used within that framework at the most well-matched time). I hope that makes sense! :D

That makes perfect sense, Julie! :D I can imagine that "A Child's Story of America" acts more like a "spine" for the extensions. Therefore, it would be used well by being interspersed with the other readings.

Thanks, Julie! :)

Elisabeth
