Reading about the Star Spangled Banner today

Post by KimS » Tue May 03, 2011 12:26 pm

In the History Stories for Children from LHFHG. I cried through the whole story about Frances Scott Key.
You know every time I sing that song and look at our flag or say the pledge I cry now.
I think I feel a sadness for our country. :(
I am glad my son could see my emotion today though. I know he is probably to young to notice but hopefully he will have strong feelings for his country and try to change things when he is older.

That is an amazing story that our dc need to know! I am glad HOD helps us teach our dc to truly love America, as well as to be aware of gains made in so many realms all around the world. I think our dc remember what we get emotional about - I bet your ds will remember your heartfelt response to this story, and feel it in his heart always. :D

These things always make me teary eyed as well. I think that lesson was one of them. I'm sure your ds saw that and someday will remember how much his mother loved her country. :D

Hello Kim,

I still vividly remember reading that story 2 years ago to my ds and just sobbing. I have been an American citizen for 12 years now and that story was even more touching than getting my citizenship and being sworn in. I was just excited that day.
So, thank you for sharing this and bringing it to memory! :D

I understand completely. I am so grateful to be homeschooling with a wonderful program like HOD so my children can learn to be proud to be an American, know our history, and most importantly, understand that God and moral values were the center of our beginnings.
