Breaks

Post by annaz » Mon Apr 25, 2011 9:54 pm

How often do you break during school hours? Do you do one large break to include lunch or do you do 2 small ones and one for lunch? How are your breaks scattered during school and how long in duration are they?

Just an FYI, I am new to HOD, and haven't used it...but plan to for the fall, so I'm not sure if what I will say has much weight to it, since I'm not sure how it will work with HOD!

But, anyway...we used to have one large break at lunch time. But, I recently tried the Workbox System, and it has worked very well, and so there are sporatic small breaks for little fun activities, or FREE time. But, these breaks are short...like 15 minutes or so. I'd say that we have a couple of these small breaks and our lunch break right now. It seems to be working pretty well.

Hope that helps.

We are doing LHFHG for K right now. Usually we do math, reading and handwriting. Then we take a little "recess". Then we get back to the rest of LHFHG. We are always finished before lunch time even when we add in some extras.

We usually take at least one quick break in the a.m. It may just be a bathroom, drink, get the wiggles out break, or a bit longer if we need a snack. He usually ends with copywork, so I can get lunch while he works. As long as we start on time we're always finished by lunch time.

We usually have a short snack break in the morning and then I like to go until I am done with them and have lunch after that. So we are usually done between 12-1. They may have some work to finish up in the afternoon, usually my 8th grader but otherwise we are done then. :)

We don't do breaks during school. But I have three doing school at various times, so they each get breaks while I"m working with someone else where they can get a drink or go to the bathroom or watch tv or whatever. But even with three doing school we are still done well before lunch.

Right now, we are still just using LHTH, so our school day isn't long enough to necessitate breaks, but next year we may work one in.

We don't really do breaks either, but I will often have DS "run around the house three times" between boxes. :D
