I am looking to start Beyond in the fall and do not yet have my hands on the actual hard copy of the book. I've looked at the sample week but can't get quite enough feel for what it contains in regards to science. I would like to do 2 days a week science and have an add on curriculum I'm looking into but was wondering how much/how in-depth the "science discover" parts go into in this book. Wondering things such as "would another science be too much?", etc. Would love any thoughts from those of you who have "gone before".
Thanks much! I'm looking forward to digging in soon! (And being new to this forum, I don't have the signature stuff figured out yet!=)

Re: Science with Beyond Question
We're using Beyond this year and are halfway through the guide. My son LOVES science and while I'd love to do it more often (even considered adding in another curriculum), I decided to do the guide as written. I found it's great for us because we have the freedom to go on "rabbit trails" if he wants after the science that day or in between the days we don't have science planned. We've learned more about the sun, moon, stars, seasons, animals, oceans, etc. We'll pull books off our shelves, look up online videos and request specific library books. It's been fun!
As we approach Bigger in the fall, I'm excited that science with notebooking will be EVERY DAY!

Re: Science with Beyond Question
I agree with the pp. For my dd who is six doing Beyond, I've added nothing official. I will tell you though that the Beyond definitely sparks their interests and we look things up online or also put books on hold at the library that also include the subjects she wants to know more about. I totally feel like the Science is enough for a 6 year old, and love not having the pressure of another curriculum on my back. I do however love following my child's interests. It's a win-win situation.

Re: Science with Beyond Question
Here is a quote from the Christian Liberty Press website:
"Second grade students will delight to study creation based upon the six-day account described in the book of Genesis. Students learn about what God made during each of the days of creation. In full-color format, students explore the creation of the physical world, energy, plants, heavenly bodies, animals, and human beings. This workbook is truly unique and includes helpful review questions and many hands-on activities. (Christian Liberty Press)"
The science is definitely enough for a first or second grader. Like the pp mentioned, you can expand on the lessons any way you like through drawings, online research, library books, etc. My children love Carrie's hands-on "experiments" that tie in with that day's history reading and which is also tied in with that day's science reading.
