"City" by David McCauley
"City" by David McCauley
My ds has absolutely loved this book. I have to smile as I am sitting here on the computer and I look down and he is building a model of the Roman streets and sidewalks using Legos. We were also talking about maybe putting in an extension to our driveway and my ds says "Dad I can help you build that I know how from reading how they built the Roman roads". Ds is also saying maybe he would like to be an architect. I just love how HOD opens up his mind to so many things that he never he had any interest in before. Of course I also love how it opens up his heart to God.

What a neat connection your ds made!
I bet he could give some pretty good advice on how to do that building project, and I bet your dh was proud to have him offer to help.
I was amazed at the thought that went into building a city "back then" - it was much more sophisticated than I ever thought it was. Very interesting reading for me too - and yes, opening our dc's hearts to different things with HOD (especially the Lord) is pretty neat. Thanks for telling us about this!

We really enjoyed City, too, Lynn. When we had "box day", it was probably the book that looked the least interesting to me. But I agree with Julie that I found it fascinating to see all the fancy detail that went into that Roman City. Running water, really nice sidewalks, a pool, ampitheater complete with concession stands...
Maybe Noah will be an architect.
I love to see the things that HOD introduces my kids to that they're so interested in, too!

We have really enjoyed ALL of the CTC read alouds this year. City is what we are reading right now too.
We also particularly loved God King, Archemedes, Boy of the Pyramids, and Cleopatra.
