The CM method of savoring a book really works
My dd came home from public school this year as a 10th grader. She has always been in Honors English, but as she had gotten older she had grown to hate reading. I know last year she didn't read half of the books that were assigned, it is amazing she managed to still do ok in the class. We had to do American History this year so I couldn't put her in a beefed up HOD program, but I did decide to go with the CM method of going slowly through a book. Her history curriculum wanted her to read 13 books this year. I cut it to 7 and added oral and written narrations and other ideas that I have seen Carrie use. Right now she is reading Uncle Tom's cabin and for the first time since she was younger she said yesterday "I really like this book!, It is so interesting." She is talking about the characters as if they were real people and trying to figure out what is going to happen etc. I am thrilled with this. So for those that wonder if going slowly through a book is beneficial I just wanted to say yes it is and what a difference it is making for my dd. She loved to read when she was younger and now I am hoping that love will come back to her.

Awesome! CM's methods really are great, arent' they? I look forward to reading our books too. Sounds like her love for reading is being rekindled.

I'm glad to hear this for your dd, Lynn. I saw the same down spiral happen with my niece who was in honors English back in high school. Her love of reading died slowly. College hasn't renewed her passion for reading yet either. 
I loved reading this and hope your dd continues to awaken her love for reading again with CM's /HOD's methods. I'm so glad you've chosen to bring her home. May God continue to show you fruit from that decision!

Isn't it amazing what a difference savoring a book can make!?!
My oldest son had been through several other types of programs that were meant to be CM-style when he was younger but he was scheduled to race through so many books each year that it made using CM strategies impossible. So, when I read more about CM and started implementing her strategies, it took a bit to get my speed reading son on board. I have seen him grow into such a deep and thoughtful reader who remembers so well what he's read. The slower thoughtful reading has allowed us to truly implement CM-strategies, keep a manageable school day, and allowed him to be able to narrate well as the readings weren't so long. It truly brings joy to both the reader and this momma!
