Question on DITHOR
I am reviewing the DITHOR and was wondering if any copies are needed to made out of the teacher guide? Also, do the students write in their student book and/or make copies? (like when they want to do the same genre twice). We are using Bigger and CTC.

We did make copies of some of the teachers guide when it came to the project time every 15 days in each unit. DD wrote in her own workbook. We purchased a new workbook this year. Hope this helps.

Re: Question on DITHOR
Tricia,
We, too, are using DITHR this year. For the student books, HOD gives you permission to make copies for family use with multiple children, or you can just use the workbook and get a new one for future uses. As for the copies, I made copies of the Assigned Reading Calendar and Genre Log found in the Appendix of the teachers guide. Just make enough copies of those for each of the genre's you plan on going through this year. We are doing 5 genre's this year with CTC, but would be doing more with some of the younger guides. I think you go through all nine genre's with Bigger, not sure though, as I haven't done that guide yet! So that number may change depending on what you chose to do.
As an optional thing, I wanted to have all the necessary copies made in advance. So I planned out what kickoff activities, and projects we were going to do for each genre, and then made copies of any needed worksheets found in the book. This way I could 3 hole punch them and place them in the back of each of their binders, and then when they needed that form, they could just pull it out. I knew if I didn't do this ahead of time, it would get neglected. I do my best planning and organizing at the start of the year! But you could very easily just do this when you get to it within each genre.
So for the binders: I put all the reading calendars (filled out), then I put a divider with a tab labeled Student Book 4/5 ( I made a copy of this because we have five children and buying all those workbooks would be costly over the years ), then I put another divider that was labeled Book Projects. That contained all of the needed worksheets for any projects that I chose. It's all working out really well. Everything is ready and there when they need it!
Blessings as you begin!

Lisa

Re: Question on DITHOR
Lisa--did you make a separate DITHOR binder for each child, or are you putting these tabs in the general school binder (with the other subjects like history, etc.)?momtofive wrote:

Re: Question on DITHOR
Yes, I made a binder for each child. Currently, only the oldest two use the DITHR. The youngers aren't ready for that yet! These are completely seperate from their other HOD binders. The binder is a great tool to have their reading calendars (really just a checklist for them), and the copy of their student book. It's working well, and it didn't take much time to put together.
