New to (and love) HOD, a few questions. . . . .

Post by momtofive » Tue May 25, 2010 10:44 am

Hi Ladies,

My name is Lisa and I am so excited to now be a part of this message board. I have been studying my HOD catalog for a long time and feel that it is the change that God has for our family. We have used several other programs and are prayerfully setting our sights on HOD. I love the CM aspect that HOD offers and think it will be a great fit for my children. And I especially love the way that the ladies on this board edify one another and help each other to answer questions and find solutions. I find it really wonderful that the author of this curriculum frequently answers questions, gives suggestions and encourages the ladies that post here!

I plan on ordering our materials soon for my three older children. We plan on going with the CTC for the oldest that will be 10 in September, and Beyond for my 8yr. old and 6yr. old. I do have a couple of questions, though.

The first is: The CTC program uses the Apologia science Land Animals of the Sixth Day. I was wondering if I should use/purchase the science notebooking journal that you can purchase from Apologia? It looks really wonderful, however, I didn't know if CTC already does something like that for this book or not? If not, could you use this book along with the science materials?

The second is: CTC is a four day a week plan. Does the DITHR go along with that four day plan or is it a five day plan? Just wondering, because my son will probably have math and english to do on the fifth day of the week anyway, so he could do the DITHR then too.

Thank you so much for any feedback!

In Christ,
Lisa

I will be using CTC also this year. I don't think you will need the notebooking pages. From looking at my CTC manual Carrie does some of the activities in the book, but not all and it looks like she adds some twists of her own. You will make you own science notebook that you will keep all you science notebooking pages in, not just the ones from the Apologia book. I know that at the end of this year when we finished Preparing my ds loved looking back through his science notebook and remembering all he did. You keep you experiment pages in there also. DITHR does go along with the 4 day plan. You do it 3 days a week and that has you getting through 5 of the genres. That was a nice amount to do in a year. I am sure if you wanted to though you could do DITHR on the 5th day and you would just work through more books that way. It wouldn't mess up anything as far as the plans are concerned.

Thank you so much Lynn for your help on this. Your answer was very informative and helpful. I just don't know what to expect next year and I want to be ready for it. I don't want to miss anything, so they will have a great year full of fun learning!
