The reasons behind HoD's choices

This is where new posts begin. All questions or discussions about any of Heart of Dakota's curriculums start here. If you wish to share a one-time post about your family's experience with our curriculum, you may post under the specific curriculum title (found beneath this "Main Board" heading).

The reasons behind HoD's choices

Post by birchbark »

I have often thought how helpful it is when Carrie takes the time to explain her reasoning behind her curriculum choices, skill progressions, etc. that are put into the guides. Many times it gives me something to think about that I hadn't considered, or perhaps just deepens my appreciation for HoD. I think annaz put it well:
I think if I knew a lot of reasons behind the plans, it would be extremely helpful. It gives insight to where they're going and what they want to accomplish and why. I've printed out a lot of threads, for example; one on mapping and how it builds on itself. That gives oodles of insight. It enables us to not give up on a curriculum because we're not sure the final outcome, or whether they hit on certain topics, or even just freaking out by doing the "wait and see if it's covered".

I've dumped curriculum, because I didn't know where it was going. Some I would have kept knowing the full reasoning behind it.
I think it would be so nice to have one thread where we could access this info. I'll start with a few posts I'm aware of. And if any of you can think of more, please add them!

Wow! We are just finishing CTC and I did not realize that we will add a new section to the student notebook each year(through each guide) until there is one large volume completed over 4 years. How exciting! :D

I agree - I was thinking it would be nice to continue to add to this as Carrie shares HOD's reasons for things and the insight/research that goes into them. Maybe once it's not her writing season something like this could be added to the website, as it's helpful to read these and ponder. :D Good idea!
