RME and The Reading Lesson
RME and The Reading Lesson
Do these teach the actual phonics rules? If not, do you follow up with some other phonics program? I spoke with someone who uses RME and she said that for a word such as eat, there is a visual clue as to the a being silent however the book never states the rule: when two vowels are next to each other the first says its long sound and the second is silent, generally. I also just read somewhere that if you use The Reading Lesson you ought to follow it with phonics pathways. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this.

Re: RME and The Reading Lesson
Gina,
I am using TRL and it doesn't have phonics rules to learn/memorize. I will not be following up with another curriculum to have my kiddos "know the rules". Here is a post that someone copied where Carrie discusses some of the philosophy behind her phonics choices. You'll have to scroll down to find it. Maybe this will help as you try to decide what's best for your kiddos, too!
