CTC History research questions

Post by Daisy » Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:51 am

The assignment reads to "answer one or more of the following questions from your research..."

Is this to be done written or orally? Is it left up to us to decide based on our child's ability?

If written, should they also be writing down the source of the information?

Guess I need to know if the objective is to demonstrate the ability to research a topic or if the objective is to demonstrate the ability to locate and document research of a topic. :D

I wondered the same thing. I asked my son to write answers, but I did not insist they be "show quality". I would like to know what Carrie's intent was for these also.

I had my dd answer them orally, and after looking ahead to the next week, the answers to the research questions will be reinforced again through the geography sections. I got to figuring that oral answers would be fine as there will be opportunities later to "quiz" on those same questions later.

You are probably right, Jasmine. Since the TM is written to the students Carrie probably would have told them if they needed to write it down??

Good question, ladies! :D At this point, we are desiring for the kiddos to orally answer the questions as the research focus is on figuring out which resource to use, practicing how to use an index and /or the internet to search for a topic, skimming to find answers, and formulating the answer in words.

We will move on to having a written component for research in later guides, so this is a step in that direction. When my son did Preparing Hearts last year, I sat with him to help him learn these skills, so now he can do this skill independently in CTC. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
