How long does each "box" in bigger take?
Is anyone willing to break down the subjects timewise for bigger? I especially would like to know how long history, science, and bible each take? Thanks!

That would be hard for me to say, exactly, because I'm not a clock watcher. Also different activities take a different amount of time. The history reading box is not usually more than 10 minutes maybe. But then the activity that goes along with it can vary. I guess 20 minutes is average for my dd but then again she can move slow if it's not something she likes a lot (like vocabulary). Science is the same way. If it's a day where we just read and narrate, then it's maybe 10 minutes, but if it's an experiment or notebook day, then more like 20-30. Bible is pretty consistently 15 minutes.

I think Amy nailed our times down pretty acurately. Sometimes we would spend a little more time on the activity than normal. (Hope That Helps? )

I'm not much help to you, we do bible for both kids programs, then storytime for both programs, etc... For us the longest boxes are the ones with writing in them, because my son hates to write. Grammar we do mostly oral so that is fast, cheerful cursive is quick, even dictation is starting to go quickly, but notebooking, copywork, and math drag out. We're planning to use Carrie's timer idea this week, so that should help us. None of the boxes should take more than 20 minutes, I think, but I've never timed them so I'm not positive.

Thanks so much for the replies. I think I have a general idea now. I'm so excited because HOD seems so doable!

I'm late to the post here, but we averaged about 20 minutes per box last year too. One thing Carrie considers when writing each day's plans is if one box is going to go a bit longer, then another box will be planned to go a bit shorter. She has an uncanny knack for nailing down time allotments. Thank you, Carrie ! If you just plan 20 minutes for each box you are planning on doing, you will have a pretty accurate chunk of time for your day (keeping in mind that you'll need a bit more time the first while to get into the flow of it). I just want to encourage you that HOD is doable - and I think you are going to love Bigger Hearts like we did last year!Dawn in Indiana wrote:Thanks so much for the replies. Dawn,
I haven't had a chance to welcome you to the board yet, so I'll do it here! I'll post a link to a previous scheduling thread below where I shared my schedule for Bigger Hearts from last year. Scroll down to see my post:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15
That is my ideal schedule for Bigger, so it would be best to add 5-10 min. to all subject areas when first beginning Bigger Hearts. It's also wise to give yourself permission to begin at half-speed for the first couple of weeks, bumping up when you've done some training in the new areas.
If scheduling threads overwhelm you, then just ignore the link!
Blessings,
Carrie
