Math Rant!!!

Post by pbt1294 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:10 pm

My daughter who has been breezing through TT5 this year just took Singapore's 3B placement test (the one you take to see if you can do 4B) and failed miserably. One of the reasons ,among others,is that we have not studied the metric system very much. At least she is laughing about it. She says she'll just go back to 2nd grade with her sisters, she is in the 2nd half of her fourth grade year now. It is just so strange how math programs can be soooo different! She is now taking the 2A placement test to see if she can do the 3A book. UGGGHHH!

Do not be discouraged. My daughter (5th grade) is finishing up 4A. If she took the TT placement test I believe she would test into TT7. Although, after seeing some of the samples, I believe that TT7 could be difficult for her. Singapore levels are different.

Remember too, that if she places in the lower levels, she may be able to work through them more quickly in some spots with your main focus being on the unfamiliar parts. :D Singapore is different so it takes some getting used to. But once you get used to it, it really seems to be the best out there!
