Spelling in Beyond question

My 5 yo dd is doing LHFHG (we're on unit 3) but she's doing Singapore math 1A, emerging readers and the spelling list 1 from Beyond. I've been skipping the days in the spelling box that go over grammar stuff - like what a sentence is, fragments, subjects of sentences, etc. My thought is we'll do it next year when she's actually in the Beyond guide. But I wanted to make sure that I should be skipping it!

I wouldn't wish into grammar. I made that mistake work my oldest. We did the grammar in Beyond while done LHFHG and then started Rod and Staff 2 when she was almost 7. Levels 2 and 3 went okay, but level 4 was a killer last year! I would not start that until at least 9yo. And that would be only with a 9yo that is still advanced in language arts, is part way through Preparing, etc. Level 4 covered many things I remember learning in 7th grade honors English at a strong academic school (in the late 80s/early 90s).
We actually stopped doing the spelling with LHFHG as well, once we got past the three letter words. My daughter was too afraid of making a mistake, and I realized it wasn't necessary at all. Doing spelling is not necessary, even in Verona. CM didn't have any spelling until dictation started around 9-10yo.

Great! Thanks, Stephanie! I'll keep doing what I've been doing and also keep an eye out for if spelling overwhelms her. Right now she's enjoying it and spells the words right the first day. I'm guessing that will change as we move into longer words!
