Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here schools year round and what there break schedule looks like. I want to take more breaks during the school year. We don't have any laws in CA to school a certain amount of time. I am thinking of doing 6 weeks on/1 week off, plus the regular Thanksgiving/Christmas breaks. And if we only need to do 35 weeks a school year then it looks like we can still take two months off for summer. So I just want to make sure that seems right and what others do. Thanks!
Schooling Year Round
Re: Schooling Year Round
Hi! Your schedule sounds nice to me.
We school each "year" differently according to what's coming up in the months ahead.
This year we are working extra hard with only a few normal breaks for holidays so we can finish school by mid May.
We have a baby due at the end of May and we plan to take off through the end of July. That will seem odd to us because we normally always have a summer school schedule of 3 days a week.
One of my favorites was having a full week off after working so hard on school for a few weeks.
Both as a student and a teacher I can tell you I LOVE year round school- in any form it takes place.
I absolutely love having a break when public & private schools are in session. Much quieter.
Have fun planning for your family! It great that you don't have a minimum number of days to complete.

Re: Schooling Year Round
I school almost year-round but we take it a lot easier in the summer. We go to a co-op one day a week so we could not finish the guide in one year otherwise. In the summer it's just if we don't have anything else going on that day we will do school, we make plans with friends, visit family, sign up for summer sport leagues and everything.
I take it easy all year long really. If the weather is beautiful or something else is going on, we will take a day off. I think about every 8 or 10 weeks we will take a week off unless there's a holiday around there where we are going to be off anyway. We do school on days like Labor Day, Memorial Day, maybe even 4th of July, because it is fun to do school when Dad is off work.

Re: Schooling Year Round
We school year around and just take breaks as needed. Last school year we took most of Oct./Nov. off for a new baby and c-section recovery. Then we took a one week break at Christmas, in April, and then for various summer camps. This year we took a one week break between guides (in October) and just had a week off for a trip. We will only take a few days off at Thanksgiving and Christmas because we have a six week break planned to visit family on the east coast in May/June. We will then school the rest of the summer except for VBS, salmon camp, and soccer camp weeks. We also live in a rainy location, so if we have a pretty day after a long stretch of bad weather, we sometimes take single days off to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. My kids are still young, but this flexible schedule has worked so far.
Grace and peace,
Alicia

It sounds like you have put together a plan you are excited about, that accomplishes finishing a guide in a year, and that gives you the breaks you're wanting... PERFECT!!!faiths13 wrote:Hello,
