Geography Guide-EIW Question?

I am wondering with the EIW course in the Geography Guide, if we have to get the 10th grade level? Why not ninth grade? My son is currently using the EIW grade 8 level and is doing quite well with it. I just wonder if I should get him the 9th grade level next year or stick with the recommendations for the new Geog. Guide and go with 10th grade level?

Any insight?
