Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
Hi -
I hope this is isn't a silly question to ask, but has anyone taken their TM to Kinko's, had them cut off the binding and drill it to rebind it with a plastic spiral/coil binding? I was thinking of doing this, but wondered if pages would eventually tear out, etc. Anyone have experience with this? I know the book lays open flat, but it would be nice to fold it over when holding it or just as a space saver when I'm working from it as it's laying on the table. Thanks for any thoughts out there!
So excited to start next week!

I wonder too. I've had the binding cut and placed in sheet protectors; however, this is time consuming as well as costly.

Interesting, I was thinking of doing this as well. but my girl friend has a binder and I can go there for a few cents to bind it.
Thanks for the information.

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
Does it fair well over time? That was the reason I choose to cut and sheet protect. I am really gentle on my guides so I think I will give it a shot. Hey, $5 is a lot cheaper!
Thx,

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
I personally have cut the binding off of mine then 3 hole punched and put into a binder. This way I can take a few weeks out at a time and place them into a 1/2 in. Binder. I have found this to be more manageable and smaller as I carry it about the house. It's also much easier and less cumbersome as I am running 3 guides this year. I can quickly go from guide to guide as I need to. This is my second year doing this and so far the pages are holding up just fine.

My Preparing Guide is doing great spiral bound--mine also has an additional plastic cover on it to protect the front...also from an office supply store.

Oh great idea. I wouldn't have thought of that. Thx!
How about dividers? I wonder if those can be strategically placed, like to separate the appendix in its many areas. I'm looking at Beyond...emerging readers, storytime titles, spelling, math, and poetry. The dividers would have to be the same size paper with small tabs so that the tabs don't get too tattered. Maybe some colored card stock? Not sure if they can do it. I'm heading to office store tomorrow to inquire.

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
Recently did the spiral binding of my DITHR, Beyond, and Bigger guides....also had the covers laminated. I also had my girl's Singapore workbooks bound. All for $23. I used Kinkos and I am very pleased with the results.
Looking forward to starting Monday.....

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
Haven't made it to the office store yet. I was away with my little guys, on a mini retreat. I never found the time to drive into town. I will try to go today, if not Monday.
Will post what happened.

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
Hi all -
I went and had both my teacher's manual and my DITHOR manual spiral bound and I LOVE it! I had a clear plastic cover for the front and a black plastic cover for the back put on as well to protect them. As someone else had mentioned, I also took out the BHFHG Appendix and had that bound separately. I think it's going to work great to have it separate from the rest of the manual! One thing I will advise...make sure that the place you choose to have it bound has an electric machine to cut off the original binding and NOT a manual cutter that has to be hand cut. It's especially important when cutting thick books like the teacher manuals. The electric machine guarantees a straight and even cut, whereas the manual machines don't. I found out the hard way, but we got the book to work, so it's all good. Excited to start our first day tomorrow!! I pray you all have a great week!

I'm interested in doing the spiral bound thing, too. Which places do the electric cutting?

Re: Spiral Bound Teacher's Manual?
I had my DITHOR book done at Fed-Ex Office (used to be Kinko's). They have the electric machines and they did a great job. I'm sure there are others as well.
