summer reading

We are new to HOD, starting CTC with our 11 year old ds in the Fall. I thought I'd order some of the great HOD books for his summer reading, choosing from the lower level programs he won't be doing. Wow! He is loving these books! He's already plowed through Aesop's Fables and The Shining Sword and is moving on to The Twenty-One Balloons - and I would not classify him as an avid reader. It's only the first week of break. I may have not ordered enough!! I'm so grateful to Carrie to making such wonderful literature selections available to us. I would have never chosen these on my own.

Andrea, that's a great idea to read some of the other list books (from previous years or other lists we're not doing during the school year) over the summer!

Isn't it neat to see dc excited to read? That's wonderful to hear about your ds! I agree HOD picks the best books, and Carrie has discovered some great "finds" I never would have found on my own. We have done all of the HOD guides, but I get the extra sets of books we didn't use (i.e. extension packages, extra Storytime sets, etc.), and let the dc read those in the summer or for free time during the school year. I am oh so thankful for the excellent living books HOD chooses! And so are my dc. I hope your ds has a terrific summer continuing to fall in love with the books HOD chooses.
