Cursive question

Post by Robin Ruth » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:50 am

My daughter learned cursive in ps this year (3rd grade) before we pulled her out. We have continued practicing by copying Aesop's Fables and using an alphabet worksheet. We will start HOD with BHFHG in August. When is writing ALL cursive expected? Should I just have her copy the poems each week in cursive and let her print the notebooking pages and any R&S written work? I was thinking of gradually adding cursive to one subject at a time as the year progressed. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give :D

Well, in HOD, they "learn" cursive in Bigger, so basically the only cursive HOD expects in Bigger is the handwriting work. I would think whatever you are doing for handwriting copywork at this point would be what you would expect in cursive if you arent' doing the book.

Preparing they have one or two things per week that they are to copy in cursive. The rest is whatever the child wants to use.

And from my understanding it gets to be a little more expected in cursive until they reach a certain point and then it's totally the child's decision? I might be wrong on that.

My daughter asked to start cursive this year (1st grade in Beyond) and I allowed it after I felt good about her other handwriting. She really loves writing in cursive, but this year I've not allowed her to do most of her assignments in cursive. Next year I'll start gradually adding it and eventually by the end of her 3rd grade year I would like her to have everything in cursive. This is mostly because that is what is expected at the Christian school she would be in if we ever decide to send her to traditional school again.
