Is there Greek and latin
Is there Greek and latin
root study at some point? Etymolgy? or Vocabulary?
I thought there was, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. If not is there one in the works?

Re: Is there Greek and latin
I do remember Carrie saying something about offering an optional Latin study in one of the upper guides.... let me see if I can find that thread....

Yes, Carrie has mentioned having Getting Started With Latin in one of the upper guides...maybe the one in planning now? I'm pretty sure it was before high school. Could be wrong! FWIW, I have Getting Started With Spanish, and it's great! I imagine the Latin is just as great. Also, keep in mind that vocab is covered in all the levels, starting with bigger I think. R&S covers well, many of the other skills. Though, if you desire to do it sooner, there are excellent programs to add in root study without adding much time to your day at all. Fortunately, HOD allows for that since the days are so, so well balanced! We've used a few so you can PM me for some ideas and I also have notebooking pages for greek and latin word study. (You can search it on my blog if you want it right away
Otherwise, PM me and I'll link you right to it.

Re: Is there Greek and latin
The problem is we're not using R&S because dd didn't retain anything. So we're using something else for grammar. So I think we're missing some of the skills in this area that would go well with dictation like dictionary usage and word meanings. Spelling and punctuation isn't much of an issue, but the rest is. Perhaps I should just pick up R&S's chapter on this. I didn't sell R&S.
DD is reading well and can pretty much understand the words she doesn't know when used in context. Although her pronunciation may be off...wrong accented syllable so it gets some chuckles. I thought maybe a study with roots may help, but I could be wrong.

Sounds like my DD10! How were you doing R&S? We do most of it orally and see much better retention this way. And we ALWAYS do the oral review in the TM.annaz wrote:The problem is we're not using R&S because dd didn't retain anything. So we're using something else for grammar. Re: Is there Greek and latin
We did it all orally. She doesn't do really well with mastery. Her brain tunes out after a while with mastery. She does better doing a little bit with constant review as well, which we did but it just didn't work orally. She needs to see and do, then do an activity in context or application. It's almost too straightforward for her. I would have to take every unit and divide it in half or thirds and at those points, move to the next unit then come back around. A lot of work. If they had worksheets for most of it instead of for a little bit, she'd do better, but the mastery thing...she just shuts off. And we did do the review always and she just couldn't remember anything.Mom2Monkeys wrote:Sounds like my DD10! How were you doing R&S? We do most of it orally and see much better retention this way. Re: Is there Greek and latin
Ever consider doing the worksheets several lessons or a unit or so behind? How long did you use it? Did you ever have her write or do ALL of it orally?

Re: Is there Greek and latin
We tried it with 2 and I tried it with 3. I keep trying it and that's a good idea, as I've done that in another subject, but it just doesn't stick.
