Praise Report!

Post by Tracee » Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:50 pm

I just wanted to say how much my son and I are loving Beyond. We had an unexpected long break and hadn't read Squanto in a few weeks. My son likes Squanto so much, that he remembered exactly where we were. He even remembered the toys that Edward Slainie showed Squanto. Today he said, I don't want to finish Squanto. I wasn't sure what he meant, but he said, "I don't want it to be over. I really like it." He asked if we could read it again. I just showed him The Sword in the Tree. He's really excited now. He is going to have so much fun this year.

Also, I wasn't sure how ds was going to do with the poetry portion, but he is doing a lot better than I anticipated. After we read the poem "Daybreak", I asked him what he thought the title was. He said "Morning Light". I was so impressed. I thought the older language in that poem was going to stump him, but he got it.

One last thing, ds had a little trouble in the beginning with Stories of the Pilgrims, but he caught on quickly and is narrating wonderfully. I'm so happy!

Hooray, Tracee! :D I'm so happy to hear your update. Isn't it wonderful when those little minds take hold and really start to progress! :D I'm so glad that your little honey is loving his read-alouds too. :D

My second little guy is currently listening to the read-aloud Scripture Sleth and loving it. My littlest one is learning to figure out what is happening with Reddy Fox in LHFHG. I love the transition to chapter book style reading as all the little lightbulbs in the listener's mind start to turn on and make connections. :D

Hooray for your son's progress in narrating too. :D That is certainly a milestone worth celebrating!

Blessings,
Carrie

How wonderful! It sounds like he is really finding his stride. The books are so engaging in the guides and keep the dc's interest so well. My dc so often don't want me to stop reading each day and are sad when a book is done. That truly is a good book when you don't want to say good-by to it. There have been quite a few of our school books that have inspired us to find sequels and keep reading so we can revisit our favorite characters. We're a couple of guides ahead of your so I can tell you that you are in for a lot more wonderful books in the next couple of years! :D

My children (the one who is in Beyond and the one who just listens in) also love the storytime selections and Stories of the Pilgrims, American Pioneers and Patriots, it is always fun to hear their excitement when they know its time for me to read one of these to them. Even the Emerging Readers books are favorites, my oldest reads to her two sisters (the middle one is probably the only one who pays attention).
