Moving ahead in some subjects
I try not to move ahead but my daughter is really crusing ahead with 2A so I am letting her. I prefer to finish a day before moving on but in some parts she wants to move along. Even with the history or science she wants to move on and not stop at times. As much as I want to stay at the one lesson a day thing I may just be moving here and there through out Bigger. How do I tell a child who WANTS to go ahead no? While it's gonna drive me a bit nuts I think I will let her go ahead on some stuff while we stay on track with our other stuff. We have also gone ahead on reading. She's answering the questions in the back with ease so we just been reading and then talking about it. We did a Unit in two days (Emerging Readers) I think once we get thru a few more books she will slow down but for now she is again crusing unlike before.

I have allowed my son to move ahead in math and the emerging readers. Other things he needs to do only one day at a time. For Math we are done with the earlybird books so currently we are just doing workbooks that I have picked up to work on mastery. He still enjoys it and time and money are still hard topics for him so he is challenged too. As far as the emerging readers - I let him read as long as he can answer the questions. If it starts to get harder then I add in one or more of the supplemental books then pick back up where we were.

You ladies sound like you are very in-tune to your children's needs, and how very satisfying that they are taking off and doing so well with their homeschooling!
I really do think that Math and the Emerging Reader's set are kind of different subjects that may lend themselves well to slowing down or speeding up the pace as necessary, and certainly Carrie recognizes that and encourages that by the way she makes them so flexible in all of her guides. Moving ahead more quickly in them will not throw off the general flow of whatever HOD program you're using with them, so that probably will continue to work just great, especially since you are paying close attention to how your dc answer questions and how they respond to what they are reading.
I think the rest of the HOD guide lends itself well to doing it at the pace suggested though. I have a very hard time telling my sons "no" too when it's something that is good for them, but I do think too much of anything at too fast of a pace becomes something that is just not special anymore. So, that's just something to guard against. Also, if you stay on schedule pacing-wise for the rest of the guide, you'll save yourself the headache of flipping back and forth between days of plans as you're teaching too, and you'll also have the wonderful benefit of all of the connections planned within each day.
Pacing is always a balancing act, isn't it? It sounds like you have it down well though!
