Two Questions:

Post by laurapella » Wed Jul 10, 2013 1:34 pm

Hi All,

First, I would like to say how much of a blessing you all are! I have not posted much, but I have definitely haunted the message board continually. I love reading every post, even about guides I am not to yet! Anyway, I am sure that if I searched long enough, I would find the answers to these questions, but I decided it would be simpler just to ask.

1. I know that Apologia's Zoology 3 is used in CtC. Are any other of the elementary books used in HOD?

2. I know you can substitute books when ordering book packs if you already own them, but if you intend on purchasing all of the packs eventually, is there any way to avoid duplicates? It seems like you would eventually run out of substitution possibilities, unless not all of the books on the site are included in book packs. KWIM?

Thank you so much for your help!!

Here's a link about apologia:

As for the book substitutions, I just started "collecting" books from a pack that I knew I would want to purchase later, so every time I made a substitution, I opted for one out of that set. Eventually I collected the whole set. Now I need to start on another one... HTH

One other quick tip - substituting items from the "CHOICES" part of each guide are often easiest to do! :D For example, a math workbook, an R & S English pupil text, a music CD, a devotional, etc. are easy items to sub in as they don't have you substituting things you need for next year and therefore causing your next year packages to have things you need to sub in for (i.e. if you have an Economy Package item, and you sub in an Economy Package item from next year, then next year you will have the same thing - which isn't bad, by any means, but it can get interesting. :D ) Hope that makes some sense! :D

Thanks Julie. In this particular instance, I was looking at the extension pack for Bigger. We already have Pedro's Journal from doing Preparing this year, so I was looking at subbing for that. Not sure what I will do yet, although I like your idea. I will take another look at the catalog. Thanks!

In that case, I'd probably sub in "Little Pillows" for $5.95, as "Pedro's Journal" is $5.99. :D We really enjoyed "Little Pillows" as well as it's counterpart "Morning Bells." She has such a way of speaking from the heart. HTH!
