LOVE this idea! :D I was about to suggest this very thing. :D I think this would be such a nice path for your dc and you not only now, but also in the future. This gives everyone the best of both worlds. :) I too would get the Beyond manual for the hands-on math. The activities are wonderful! When you go to order your Beyond Economy Package the following year, just let Mike at HOD know you already ordered the Beyond manual the year before, and he will credit you the package savings then.

Sounds GREAT! I do have one last question...with both dc doing LHFHG next year, they would both be doing the same history and science, so will that put my ds (who will be 6 then) behind in those areas? Should I order him the 1st grade levels even though we are not doing the kindergarten science and history this year? I think I may be confusing myself and making this harder than it is lol.

The science is essentially the same for K and 1st grade. There are two book options, and you could use either. The 1st grade one looks a little meatier, but the topics are the same. The history is the same regardless. What is different is the fine motor skills, and I think these might be workbooks anyways. So, you could just get both the K and 1st grade ones if you want them. You could buy the K ones now and maybe use them with your son with LHTH now and then get the 1st grade ones later if you think he will need more work in that area. Here is the link to the information on those: http://www.heartofdakota.com/rod-staff.php

This is a great idea that fits with what you mentioned as well! :D If you feel your ds is ready now for K Fine Motor Skills, and K math is also an option to consider, here are some details! :D

It would look like this...
This year with Little Hands to Heaven: Ds would do K Fine Motor Skills using "Do It Carefully/Finding the Answers" and either "A Reason for Handwriting K" OR "Italic A" depending on your handwriting preference. If you want your ds to do K Math this year, I'd get the "Little Hearts for His Glory" guide for the hands-on math lessons for "Essential Math."

The next year with Little Hearts for His Glory: Ds would do 1st Grade Fine Motor Skills using "Going On Eagerly/Helping and Hearing" and either "A Reason for Handwriting A" OR "Italic B" depending on your handwriting preference. If you did K math last year, then I'd get the "Beyond Little Hearts for HIs Glory" guide for the hands-on math lessons for 1A/1B.

If you feel your ds is ready for the K Fine Motor Skills this year along with LHFHG, but not the K Math - that's no big deal! Just do the K Fine Motor Skills! If you feel your ds is not ready for either the K Fine Motor Skills or the K Math this year (and many 5 yo boys are not  ) - that's no big deal! Just hold off on those and do them when you do Little Hearts! HOD is very flexible. Will your ds be behind if you wait? No. Many first grade dc use LHFHG, and they are on grade level and thriving. So, do whatever is best for your ds. HTH!

Thank you guys so much for explaining things so well! I think I have it figured out! Can't wait till the new LHFHG guide is released so I can order it and get started. I am really looking forward to this school year using HOD!

Blessings,
