My son was concerned we were running out of guides!
My son was concerned we were running out of guides!
We are just finishing up our REV2REV guide (one more week--but that will have to wait until after vacation). My son was reading in the back of his HOD manual and said, "Oh, there is only one left" (in a sad tone-and this child never seems that thrilled about school!). I assured him there would be high school guides and he was relieved. You only get so many of those homeschool moments! Thanks, HOD!

That is so sweet! Love it!
my son had a similar HOD moment. He didn't know there were more guides and he was actually patting the Little Hearts guide and telling me, "once we finish this book we are doing it all over again!" He was shocked and delighted to hear there were more guides. Haha.
I am so disgusted at my own school experience. I feel like my education was completely wasted.
I didn't even go to "bad" schools but all I remember is overhearing kids talk about drugs and seeing groping and kissing in halls. The learning was so uninspiring, so boring. All the kids were there for, truthfully, was lunchtime and breaktime. We just endured the classes. There was that 1% who seemed to do well in school but now I suspect that their parents were probably highly involved with homework, in which case, they were homeschooled AND public schooled.
I wish HOD was around when I was a youngin'. I would have LOVED it.

Yes, Raindrops, I was valedictorian of my class and the specifics you listed are what I remember too!!! I was good at short term memorization, but I didn't master material. I have learned so much since I started homeschooling! I feel like that is when my education truly began. We have had a busy year with our business. My son graduated high school and my son and daughter-in-law graduated college, so our year is dragging out longer than usual, but it is still OK because we have such great materials! If we didn't, I think I would have to hang up the towel. Yesterday someone asked me if we were done with school, and all I could say was, "I have one done with spelling." We will get there. Just one week left with REV2REV!

Re: My son was concerned we were running out of guides!
We still have 9 units left. I am anxious to begin Beyond... but really, we are having fun with LHFHG and it is a great fit still. Wondering how we will manage the longer days in Beyond (more what to do with my daughter for 2.5 hours. She hardly can wait for son and I to finish Little Hearts each day.)
I have learned things too, and we are only doing Kindergarten! The history of Wall St was fascinating. I didn't know such detail of Martin Luther's life. Something tells me we didn't srudy him in public school.
Were you planning on doing year 'round school? We were, so it is no big deal that we haven't finished. We do co-op and 4H... it does "eat" into our schoolyear. I wanted to avoid a loooong hot summer with no HOD. My son looks forward to it. He even MADE me do school yesterday... on Saturday.
I am the only one in my rather large homeschool group that does HOD and I really don't understand why that is. ??? It is just so fun and perfect.

Re: My son was concerned we were running out of guides!
I completely agree with raindrops and 8arrows...I was telling my kids yesterday that they have no idea how blessed they are with this type of learning. I was also a class valedictorian, and remember next to nothing about my classes, but I do know that there are things we're reading now with my kids that I've never ever been taught in school or college! We were both products of the public school system, and don't have anything against them in general, but we began homeschooling because the public schools where we lived were so horrible we honestly did not feel we had the option to leave them in that environment. Now that we just moved, we feel the public school system here is much better and we'd no longer have to homeschool; however, I'm having too much fun with HOD to quit it! I can't imagine not being able to keep going
