Done Beyond w/ an 8 y.o. boy?

Post by Kteni » Tue Apr 23, 2013 2:59 pm

Has anyone done Beyond with an 8 year old boy? is it too young of a program? Even if your 8 y.o. is only an emergent reader?

I am considering it for the fall. I will have a 6 and 8 yo and would like to keep them together.
I think for my 8yo though I might do the right side of Bigger. I am still wavering on what to do. I am not sure I can handle two guides at one time. :-/
Oh and my 8yo did beyond when he was 6 but does not remember it at all. I like the history and don't think it's to young for an 8yo. I think he would get more than mine did at 6.

I used Beyond with my son for second grade last year. He turned 8 in November of that school year. It worked wonderfully for us.

I will be moving onto beyond with my 7yr old boy, 8 in October, sometime in May. He will not be an emergent reader, but still doing The Reading Lesson. I think it will be the perfect thing for him.

I am new to homeschooling. I will be doing Beyond (left side) for my 8 year old and 2, 6.5 year olds. The 8 year old will do the right side of Bigger and DITHOR while the youngers will do the right side of Beyond. I have the books already and after looking at them, am very comforted by the decision. Good luck.

I did this exact thing. Life at the time meant I had to simplify. My son loved it. We read different read alouds than the first time around.
