Is Beyond more for 1st gr or 2nd gr?
I am looking to start HOD with my 6 yo in the fall..but having alot of trouble with where to place him. He is an advanced reader in K right now, ans writes well....but i seem to get the impression from others that if i place him in Beyond (where i think he falls)..that i am "pushing" him ahead...that i should instead start with Little Hearts. So, i really don't know what to do..?? I have just ordered LHTH for 4 yo and will start now..btw..please, any advice from those who have tried this...!..it seems if you follow the layout, that Beyond is intended for 1st gr (if you did Little Hearts for K), but that doesn't seem to be what i have read from others...thanks!

It really depends on the child. If he well places in Beyond I would go for it.
To me, Beyond is about half 1st and half 2nd grade. I did it with my oldest for 2nd because he has learning challenges. With my second it will be a more first grade program although he won't be ready to start it until November. That's when we will finish Little Hearts.
Occasionally in a box it would have something for older and slightly different for younger. Things such as spelling list 1 or 2.
Again, if he places in Beyond then I believe that's where you should start. What matters is if he is ready for it. If he is you are not 'pushing' him.
I think what many people mean by having LHFHG for K and Beyond more for 2nd, is because they do half-speed or school 4 days a week. It wouldn't take a full extra year for that, but would take extra time. Every family also has different guidelines and expectations for each grade level.
HTH some.

If you are just placing a first grader who is reading, I would use Beyond. Families use it for both. I used it for a 1st and 2nd grader together 4 years ago. I think many people may have been taking into account your younger child and the possiblity of combining in LHFHG.
