Study of Ancient Greece in preparing. WOW!!

Post by julsoliveira » Tue Mar 26, 2013 3:05 pm

My Preparing boy made his Roman coins this week, So we checked out some Usborne reference books from the library for visual reference, and also for the research part. So today I was looking through the Usborne Internet linked Greeks book, and started pointing out things we'd talk about, read about, or done projects on. It was awesome to see his excited recognition. This has been a favorite study of his this year. But I digress... I was stunned when I realized that we had studied every major asspect presented in the reference book! We really did! Maybe I didn't realize it because the guides are in black and white, but when you really stop to see just how much they're learning this year, well shazzam! If Carried has packed this much into just a few short units, I cannot WAIT to see what happens in CTC! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My son is just loving his history studies this year.

Totally agree!!!! I am so surprised at home much my dc are retaining as well this year. Even though convention is less than 2 weeks away when I can buy next year's materials, I have been pouring over the samples here and trying to get peeks inside the books that HOD uses. Super excited about CTC as well.

CTC is AWESOME! It just makes you drool for the next guide. Each one seems to get better and better. Personally, I'm more excited about the Medieval and Ren. times than ancient history, so I'm especially excited about moving on. You're right! So much is packed into each guide. I just continually shake my head when I see/hear people choosing to use dry textbooks. Why would you do that when you can learn this way? Oh, well. We can enjoy it!

   Shazzam is RIGHT! :) I feel the same way. Sooooooo much is covered in HOD, but it is done in such a way that so living, accompanied with such neat activities/discussions/projects/CM ideas - that it just sticks - and in a good way! :D Riley and I are LOVING CTC - he just can't wait for Storytime especially, and he loves the history books he is reading for "Reading about History" too. What a blessing! :D

I'm so glad that you've enjoyed the study of Ancient Greece in CTC! It is often amazing how much is covered in the guides and sometimes it's easy to overlook how thorough they are! :D Thanks so much for sharing a glimpse into CTC. You made my day!

Blessings,
Carrie
