Can you compare time requirements for CTC and RTR

Post by lmercon » Fri Mar 22, 2013 6:39 am

I noticed that the catalog lists approx. the same amount of time for the two programs, but I have found, as you would expect, each program requires more time each day. I was wondering what your "real life" experiences are with these two programs. Did they take approx. the same amount of time or is RTR considerably more. I'm trying to make some decisions about what areas to cut out or "outsource" to make HOD doable with my dyslexic ds. I have to spend sooooooo much time with him each day because I basically have to read everything to him and scribe for him the written narrations. With my dd going into Bigger and a newborn come Sept., I think I'll have my hands full! I've been getting a lot of advice to switch ds from HOD to DVD or online programs, but my heart doesn't want to do that! I love HOD, but I can't have him falling behind due to my busy schedule! The program just advances much faster than his reading level advances, which causes him to be MORE dependent every year rather than LESS!

I found them to be the same. I know I had asked this about this time last year and others said the same thing.

Laura,

One thing that may help in your particular situation for RTR would be to have the History spine books read ahead of time on audio. Then, your son could just press play for that particular subject and it would be one less reading for you to have to find time to perform during the actual day. MOH III is supposed to be available soon, if it isn't already, on audio. :D Usually, we don't tell families to use MOH on audio, as it takes more time to listen to the readings than it does to read them independently. However, in your son's case, it would work well to listen. :D

Then, you could read on audio the other spine books, maybe devoting a week to reading them during the summer? Or, do you perhaps having a mother, mother-in-law, or aunt who may be willing to do some reading on audio? My mother-in-law has read many chapter books on audios for my kiddos and enjoyed doing it. Now, her other grandchildren are getting a chance to listen also! :D

Anyway, this is just one idea that may be of help. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I agree with recording some of the history readings on audio ahead of time for your son. That's what I am planning to do with some of my time this summer.
16yo DD using US History 1 for 11th grade
14yo DS using World Geography for 9th grade
13yo DS using Rev to Rev for 7th grade
10yo DD using Creation to Christ for 5th grade
8yo DD using Bigger for 3rd grade
7yo DD using Beyond Hearts for 2nd grade

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I had considered reading on tape for him. Making that a summer project would be a good idea. I did that a number of years ago with the independent history readings in Preparing. It would be wonderful to find MOH on audio! That would be a dream!
Thanks again,

MOH III is available in MP3 format. They're currently working on adding music to it. Once that is done, they will have it available in CD form. In the meantime, you can purchase the MP3 files without audio here:

(You'll need to scroll down the page to see MOHIII.)
