new to HOD

Post by kcstrahm » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:34 pm

Hi, I am looking to begin homeschooling for my five year old that will be in Kindergarten. I am having a hard time deciding what program I should purchase for her. I have looked at many curriculums and I am just concerned about each one and what they might be lacking. I love the HOD and the concept but I'm afraid it will not align to my states academic content standards. So my question is, does anyone else following their states academic content standards and if so does this program provide what a kindergartner needs to achieve each goal, for math and language arts and social studies or would i need to supplement most of the materials. Please help. This is a huge decision and it does cost money that I do not want to just throw away.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

What state are you in? Could you supply the needed requirement list, or link to it?

I am in Ohio. there are multiple links for each subject. They are all linked to PDF files. I'm not sure how to post those.

Welcome to HOD!
I think that Little Hearts would easily provide all the skills an average K student would need. We live in PA which is very highly regulated and I've never had a problem with the school district questioning my curriculum choice.

Hi there and welcome to the HOD Board! :D The author of HOD is a former ps teacher and has her master's degree in education, so meeting standards is pretty important to her. She writes with standards in hand as much as possible (considering there are 50 states  ). LHFHG is very appropriate for kindergarten. I too am a former ps teacher with my master's, so this is important to me too. You will be fine with HOD, and not just for this year, but for every year to come, all the way til you graduate your little honey. :D On a side note, we've used LHFHG 3 times now, and feel we have 100% gotten our money out of it over and over again! Very little of it is consumable, so you can either reuse it with younger dc at a low, low cost, or sell it and put that toward "Beyond Little Hearts..." the next year. HTH! :D :D :D

In Christ,
Julie
