Timely Bible and DITHOR topics
Timely Bible and DITHOR topics
My ds has been going through a rough patch the past couple of weeks. He is almost 14 and he has just become more aware of how his CP makes him unable to do many of the things his friends do. His tremors have been worse, probably due to a growth spurt. He has spilled many things and become frustrated with his challenges. We have talked and prayed about it a lot. Today in Worldview his notebooking assignment was to write a letter to God asking him for help with some struggle and then writing about how you know God will help you with the struggle. He then had to find a verse from the chapter to include at the end of the letter. This was such a good exercise for him right now. Then in DITHOR today's lesson was the character trait lesson and one of the traits was self-acceptance vs the opposite self-pity. When I asked him when he had shown the positive trait he buried his head in a pillow and said he hadn't lately. We talked about how he had in the past and talked about how he could get to that point again. The verse for self-acceptance is Psalm 139:14. He knows this verse as we have been saying it to him since he was young, but what great timing to read it again. I just love that HOD doesn't just teach academics. It teaches a reliance on God in all things and there are reminders throughout the daily lesson plans that help dc turn to God with the very real struggles of growing up.

Re: Timely Bible and DITHOR topics
Many times God has used our Heart of Dakota studies to provide a Scriptural answer or encouragement for struggles or problems we are having. That's one of the things I love about the program. While all the lessons have the Bible as the foundation, I have seen no other program build a child into the habit of Bible Quiet Time and prayer time daily. Seeing God move with those lessons is so wonderful!

Lynn,
Isn't it a blessing how God uses His Word and His timing to give us just what we need! I trust as we write the guides that as long as I keep the children daily in the Word, God will ordain moments for each family throughout the guides to speak directly to their needs. I love moments like this, because I know they are God-ordained, as only He can provide!
Thanks so much for sharing! By the way, we have our own share of 14 year old emotions going on here too, so your son is not alone!
Blessings,
Carrie
