Jen- I know what you mean. I used to just laugh and shake my head at moms who told me I would do anything for that 5 minute breather in the bathroom. But how right they were. I love seeing those little fingers and hearing those little voices. It will pass away all to soon.

dcafamily- I started giggling about the two hands and a foot. LOL Oh the memories we will cherish as our little ones grow up.

This catalog is bathroom magazine rack worthy....only my faves go in there because that is where I steal 5 minutes for myself without little bodies interrupting me. :-) Of course they lay on the floor outside the bathroom and stick their fingers under the door saying "I see you Mommy." LOL

Excellent job Carrie and your sister....which one did the writing? I love that HOD is so family oriented down to the finest detail. If I hadn't already had my heart set on HOD, I sure would now.

Thanks!!!
Hi Jessi! I'm just enjoying reading previous posts that I missed out on when I was at the last convention with Carrie. I love your quote "bathroom magazine rack worthy" - now we have one of those, so I know that is a big deal if it made it into there! As far as the writing of the catalog, it was truly a family event. I wrote all of the explanations of the programs, the resources' descriptions/pricing, the placement chart, and the "How to Order Box" (BTW - is that box helpful? Or did I manage to make it overwhelming?)

Carrie made all of the charts /graphs, family introduction page, comments pages, and all of the 2 page guides' layout pages. She also spent COUNTLESS hours with her graphic designer choosing the colors, graphics, design of the catalog. And Mike.. what would we do without dear husband Mike?!? He worked to find an excellent printer, ordered all of the catalogs, and continues to ship all of them.

So, it truly was a family affair! It has been so uplifting to hear that you have liked it. It truly became a 'piece of our hearts' by the time it was completed. Now this is going to sound corny, but every once and a while, I take my catalog out just to run my hands over it... half to assure myself that it is finally done... and half to imagine that catalog in wonderful ladies' hands, like your own - and in putting out a Christian curriculum, hoping God is little glorified each time I hand one out!

Julie the Catalog is great! It is not at all overwhelming. In fact I think it is just confirming. I have been all over the site and have Bigger, Beyond and Little but still got better understanding from the catalog. :D You guys did a great job! It's an awesome tool for those seeking and those that know this is it! 8)

Very helpful! :D

The whole catalog is great. I love being able to look and see the progression from year to year. The descriptions of the programs are wonderful - very in depth. You all did an awesome job with it.

Julie- I second, or third, or fourth the other ladies. The How to Order Box was very simple to follow. Since I am only starting with LHTH right now, I am sure the How to order will help me with picking future packages and additions for HOD as it lays it all out in a concise way. God bless all your work on this project. You have done an excellent job!

Oh, friends, I just had to chime in on this thread!

I received my catalog several days ago and I think it's one of the nicest ones I've ever seen. It doesn't feel overwhelming - I love the layout.

But I had to share that I really appreciate the sense of community on this message board. I feel when I have come here, discerning about using Preparing, everyone has a sincere interest in my success as a homeschool mom. The joy and peace of this wonderful group just really comes through in how you treat one another. This was brought home to me this week in another group I'm on for our current curriculum. They spend more time complaining about homeschooling. . .I finally realized that this group of ladies are basically very unhappy, and perhaps it is due to the nature of the program itself. It doesn't have the potential to grasp children's hearts as HOD seems to do.

So, as you go through your day, just know that I keep sitting down in my green rocking recliner and looking at the catalog pages for Preparing. At least three times a day! LOL

Jennifer, your words were so eloquent. :-) I have been involved in other forums as well and I finally had to leave them because they were not filling my heart to overflowing. This group is like minded in more than just curriculum and that is what I love. The minute I stepped "foot" in here, I felt like it was home. :-)

But as I don't drink Diet Dr. Pepper........maybe I am like the black sheep of the family.

Jessi -

I have to confess, I haven't had a Diet Dr. Pepper since about 6th grade. Hopefully the fact that I drink coffee is enough to recommend me to the group! LOL

LOL! I just got back and I'm trying to catch up! Well, if you don't drink DDP then you need to at LEAST drink coffee for goodness sakes!

BTW Jen, I just loved your post about these boards. I so agree my friend!

Jen - Thanks so much for your words of encouragement here! That is the goal for this board - that it is an inspiring, uplifting place to gather with one another as we discuss each other's needs. I have been on other boards where ladies are unhappy, and often have a complaining nature as well, and I often left those boards feeling quite unhappy myself after reading those posts.

Ladies like yourself just help keep the "sun shining here at HOD", or maybe I should say keep the "Son shining here at HOD" because I do believe our words reflect our hearts, and of course, our hearts reflect our relationship with the Lord.

I think our children's hearts are drawn into HOD because God's wisdom, goodness, and love are woven throughout HOD's programs. What a wonderful way you went about conveying that with your words here!

Now I have a picture in my head of you in the green rocking chair on the cover of the catalog sipping your coffee! (which by the way I enjoy a cup of coffee each day too... and a cup of tea... and a cup of International coffee... well, you understand the great need for the 1 DDP pop a day for me now)! Carrie and always joke that we are the "beverage gals" - we'd almost always rather drink our favorite beverages than eat our favorite foods! I'm not sure what happened there, but we're definitely part of the driving force supporting the caffeine craze (in moderation).  :D

Annaz, Jessi, annegirl, Sharon, and w2w -

Thanks so much for putting my fears to rest about the infamous "How to Order" box! I cannot imagine writing how-to manuals, like "how to use your computer" or "how to change your tires" or any other type of step-by-step instructions, for a living. Just writing sticky-note labels for my oldest ds to do a load of laundry took NINE steps - and we wonder why our dc just can't get into the habit of doing chores sometimes?!?  Anyway, I'm glad the box in the catalog made sense.

In Christ,
Julie
