Hello. My son is finishing up Abeka phonics/language/spelling first grade. I am using Little Hearts for everything else with first grade option for science. I am not sure what to do about spelling for 2nd grade using Beyond. He does not struggle with Abeka spelling 1. He is also reading beautifully with the Abeka 1st Grade readers.
We do a lot of the Abeka language arts orally or on the board. It is too much writing for him. I do not want to put him in Rod and Staff 2 until 3rd grade/Bigger. I think that would be fine to wait on.
I am thinking that the Emergent Reader set would be the next step for him. He is currently reading level two readers from the library. I just thought it can't hurt to have him do the ER set. Any thoughts on this?
I do not know what direction to go in for spelling. I have not seen what the Beyond spelling list looks like yet. Could someone please explain how that works? Just not sure where to go after using Abeka spelling 1.
Would greatly appreciate any advice!
Thank you,
Renee

Re: Beyone for 2nd grade quest.
Hi!
My daughter, who was already reading extremely well, benefited greatly from the ER books because of the comprehension questions. They are very age level appropriate too and she loved all of them from a story perspective!
As for the spelling lists each week focuses on a different spelling pattern with 1 or 2 rule breakers. There are two lists for each unit. List 1 is easier and list 2 is harder. You can pick whichever you think works best. I chose to give my daughter a pretest on Friday of the week before and she would practice the words she missed for her spelling test. Sometimes there were 6 or 7, some weeks she didn't have any and we would review difficult words. This is a good fit going from Abeka 1 I think.
I hope this helped you some!
