Thinking Skills Book alternative & a few LHFHG ?s

Post by abrightmom »

Ladies,

DD6.5 is going to start Little Hearts! I am pulling together a few more pieces of the Little Hearts puzzle and Lord willing we are starting fresh with HOD in January. God is providing! :D

Anyhow, she has torn through MUCH of the Thinking Skills book already this fall as she is a workbook gal and I had it on the shelf for her. She has also done most of the Rod & Staff workbooks. ANY ideas on something similar to those that I could pull out on days when the skills book is scheduled? She is NOT good at coloring (she rushes and scribbles) so something that would help her to slow down a little and learn to control herself would be fun alongside stimulating activities that teach something (similar to the skills book).

Also, this girl is READY for Beyond right side skill work. She is already using ERs and will begin Spelling List 1. She has STRONG FM, reading, and spelling skills already. I am choosing to start her in LHFHG because her attention span is SHORT and her interest in history is minimal. LH is a good fit for where her heart and interests are. Is there anything else from Beyond's right side that I should consider for her?

You could just get the next Thinking Skills book in the series online somewhere. I continued to buy those books for my kids each year.

Have you looked at the next workbooks that follow Rod & Staff "do it carefully" and "finding the answers"? There are 3 more. Going on Eagerly, Hearing and Helping, and Inside and Outside.

I am going to do LHTH twice with my daughter, I think next year we will do the Rod and Staff and then do Thinking Skills in LHFHG. She seems like a workbook type... always wanting to "do muh skoo-work" and paint and draw. LOL.

For the skills you mentioned for your daughter, I believe the other R&S books would be great for her! It seems as though you have it covered, doing the right side of Beyond and the left side of LHFHG. :D
Are you doing the Thornton Burgess books for story time? How is your daughter with math? Are you planning on doing K-5 books or Primary Mathematic 1? The hands on activities for the latter are also in the Beyond manual.
Success and I pray that HOD will bless your family as it has blessed mine! :D

Red Buki books and Kumon books would offer some other alternatives as well. :D
