Am I the Only One Who Has.....

Post by Homeschooling6 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 3:54 pm

Am I the only one who has Guides that look like this. My kiddos feel a sense of accomplishment and love putting a big x or check mark on the box. Once Annette is completely done she checks it off with one huge one across the page

My HOD guides are pristine. Seeing huge marks all over the page gives me hives and heart palpitations.

Sorta! I do not cross out the box because I will be using it again with my daughter and need to be able to read it.

At the top of each page I write the date and any library books we read, a craft we have done or co-op classes with topics learned about. I will write there if we went to any classes at the nature center, for example. I like recording what we've learned and looking back and seeing when we did what. Also write about 4H and field trips.

I check beside each box as we do it.

I write what lesson/ page we are on beside the phonics box.

I record anything extra we did for math, or writing, etc.

Ahead of time, I sat down with devotionals I already had and matched up the topics to what was going on in the guide. I LOVE this because now I am actually using these books! It only takes a few extra minutes and I only do extras after we finish HOD.

Oh and I went on youtube one night and searched for all the key ideas for the bible history, found a animated bible story for just about each one and jotted down the title, so I can quickly find it. He loves watching the stories he just read about!

AND I write a little note to self if my son really enjoyed something, maybe a quote of something cute he said or a reaction I don't want to forget. ;) like the dramatic play where we HAD to repeat it FIVE times. (He thinks Carrie is brilliant.)

So yes, I do write a lot in my guide! You should see my bible! I write notes to self galore. I do restrain myself and do not write in library books and only on post it notes when I am reading a borrowed book from a friend. LOL

This used to be me. In CTC I marked it up and it looked like the second pic...but only pencil.... That was tough. Yes. Hives/heart palpitations. Truly.

I can still only mark a guide in pencil. Perhaps some day I'll move on to pen or marker. Baby steps.

  Gasp!!!! I am with abrightmom and keyjoy. My guides do not have any marks in them (we use sticky notes) to show what has been done. I know I am a little OCD and my kids laugh at me for it. My son was actually sitting right beside me when I pulled this post up and he said "Oh my gosh mom you would have a heart attack if we did that to our guides" :D :D But in all reality I do have to reuse them again with my younger daughter

I take notes in mine. Not quite as marked as the op's since I'll be using the books with the younger ones, but definitely not pristine either.

I think my kiddos are visual and when they see that big check or x it's a wonderful feeling and to tell you the truth, I like seeing the boxes x'ed off too

Each child will have their own Guide (Lord willing) so it's okay if they mark it up. I use to be one who didn't like any marks but I've come a long way

My younger Guides don't look so shocking  I usually put the date with any info I might need.

I'd pass out or have a heart attack. Seriously. My guides are precious.

However, we do have a laminated page with each subject that we x out as it's done. Same result without the heart attack. We're using Bigger and a sweet mom on here made the template.

ETA: Here's where I got ours. DS loves it! We printed the character cards too.

I use a green star stamper for things completed and a red "x" stamper for things skipped. Not over the words though. Wish there were check off boxes. I put a date at the top and notes as well. I would post a picture if I could figure that out. Maybe my four year old can help. Lol
