Different maths for different kids?

Singapore math was not working for my DS8. He stayed in a constant state of confusion and just barely squeaked out the exercies. By review time he had completely forgotten what had been learned previously. So about 2 months ago I tried CLE 200 math with him. Eureka! He's doing fabulously!

I also got CLE 100 math to use with my DD6. Honestly, Singapore hurts my brain from time to time and I wanted to keep everyone in the same program and be consistant between kids as far as learning techniques, methods, etc. She is doing well and CAN do the work but boy! the complaints about the workload (which isn't that long actually) is endless. She wasn't necessairly having problems with Singapore but like I said I wanted to keep things consistant. I'm wondering if I should let her do the Singapore again unless it proves itself to not be a good fit.

Do any of you run different curriculums for math among your children? What are the pros and cons you've experienced?

I run different math programs for my dc. Ds was already with MUS and thriving before we came to HOD so he's still with MUS. Dd however started with MUS like ds, but it didn't work for her. She is using Singapore and loving it!!! No cons as it works best for each of them. I am loving doing Singapore with dd as there are things I am learning and I went through Calculus in school. LOL. Anyway, I also love working in MUS with ds because I too see things like I've never seen them before.

My 2 kids do different math, but it really isn't the same situation because of the age difference. My dd is a senior and since she came home in 10th grade we have used a different math curriculum every year. She is very independent though.

My ds used CLE from the time I brought him home as a 4th grader up through last year. I love CLE, but I will say if your dd is already complaining about the length of the lessons that they only get longer and longer. My ds was often spending an hour on CLE 600 lessons and I didn't even have him do all the problems. He never worked less than 45 minutes. He is a steady worker and actually very good in math, but the lessons are just long. Math was the one subject he would complain about.

Hi! I do different maths with my kiddos. My younger 2 do the Singapore and my older 2 do Teaching Textbooks. TT is pretty self-taught & independent so it works out great for my olders who want to do things on their own. It's also nice for me to be able to send them off to do a subject without me!

For a long time I had one in Singapore and the other in Math-U-See or Hays or...fill in blank... trying desperately to find something that worked for DD1. Which eventually was this odd program called visual math which, happily can be used in conjunction with any math program.

This year I have both of them in Singapore with a side helping of Visual Math for DD1. DD1 is allowed to do her problems the visual math way.

For years I ran 2 math programs without a problem. Math really should fit the kids learning style and brain. If it hurts my brain it's to hard for DD1 LOL but will be a perfect fit for dd2.

That's what I was afraid to hear - that the lessons get longer. That will definitely be an issue down the line with probably both of them but certainly with dd6. I may let her go back to Singapore for a bit and see how it goes. I'm reluctant however to move ds8 back because he's doing so well. He's learned things so easily now in CLE that before were tear-causing concepts.

I see now that it wouldn't be a big deal to do different programs. Thank you all for sharing your experience!

If CLE is clicking for your ds I wouldn't change it. My ds complained some about CLE, but he understood the concepts and that was important to me. It really wasn't until the end of 500 and then 600 that he griped a little about the length of the lessons. That is a long way off for you.

Hi Ladies,
My ds is in 8th grade. We use Richard Fischer, and I suppliment it with Math Mammoth.
I like the combination and it is going very well.

Sorry I didn't read all the comments but wanted to chime in. I am using different math programs with my 6 children.
My 8yr. old is using a mix of The Complete Math Book Series and Mathematical Reasonings.
My 9yr. old is using TT4
My 11 and 14 yr. old~Math Essentials
My 12 and 13 yr. old~ MUS
We are using four different programs and everything is running smoothly. I tried to get them all into one math but it just never happened.
