LHFGH and math, science?

Post by tnsunshine3 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:30 pm

When I look at the first week sample of LHFHG, I notice that the math exploration section lists the earlybird kindergarten math 2a, however I am going to place my ds in first grade math. I am wondering do I just skip that section of the HOD tm and just use the singapore 1a on a different schedule?
I am wondering the same thing with the science portion. The sample tm only lists the World God Made, which is Kindergarden, not first which is Our Fathers World. How is this best handled since I will be purchasing the first grade sets?
Thank you so much for your input!!!

There are alternate schedules for the 1st grade options in the back of the manual. Both of the books you mentioned are listed in the back.

Hope that answers your question!

tnsunshine3,

Also be advised that, although there is indeed an alternate schedule for use with Singapore IA in the appendix of LHFHG, the alternate schedule does not contain the hands-on/Math Exploration lessons/activities that coordinate with the IA workbook. You would need to purchase the Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory guide to have those hands-on activities/lessons.

You could either follow the schedule in the appendix or purchase the Beyond guide to get the hands on activites for the 1A-1B books. :)

How old is your dc?

I just ask because I went back and forth, back and forth trying to decide which math and science to choose. After muuuuch reading and thought I decided just to go with the K math and science. It goes with the guides and with that in mind I didn't want to be forever one guide off. I really wanted to keep things simple and keep it all "open and go" as possible. This our 1st year homeschooling.

We have reeeeeally enjoyed it ALL so far! 3 units in. The math concepts are basic, yes, but to my surprise my lil guy has flourished on it. He is really gotten GOOD at writing those numbers. Carrie has the coolest cutest ideas to go along with the K math and science that we are definitely NOT bored with it. The books support the planned activities more than the guide just just "going along with" what is in the workbooks... if that makes sense. We are having a blast. He is getting rock solid foundation here.

I hope this post doesn't offend, I am sure your child could do the 1st grade option, mine could too, no doubt. I just think the K options are a great choice too, that is why Carrie chose them, and it all just flows wonderfully and I am not flipping back to appendixes or other manuals. But if your child has already done the singapore 2a and 2b and the K science then the appendixes and all would be totally appropriate, if a bit more work.

K, sorry. ;) (just luvin' kindergarten here)
