Rev to Rev Science

Post by Taryn » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:41 am

Hi Ladies,

I have a few questions about science for this upcoming year. I plan on using Rev to Rev with my 9th dd and my 7th ds. I think I have read every post on using HOD for high school :) which have been very helpful! I plan to do Apologia biology with my dd. I was wondering If anyone knows of a different biology program such as the program Carrie has for physical science in Rev to Rev? I wondered what HOD recommends for biology?

Also, I had planned on doing physical science in 8th grade with my ds next year. Then we would continue to do high school level science in his 9th -12th grade years. But physical science is the focus for Rev to Rev this year. He is in 7th this year. So if we do physical science in 7th it seems to throw things off with science. I know we could use the advanced log but he is 12. We would not want to use the 9th-12th grade years to do physical science again because many colleges are not counting this as a science but as an elective. Next year chemistry is the focus for science in M to M. I am trying to figure this out. Any help will be appreciated :D

We have used LHTH, LHFHG, CTC, R to R and Rev to Rev this year!
Blessings,
Taryn

I think Carrie has mentioned ACE Biology. She likes it because it includes Human Anatomy which I know Apologia does not. As far as colleges counting Physical Science as an elective I haven't seen that. My dd is a senior this year so we have looked at many colleges and they are fine with Physical Science as long as you have Biology and then at least Chemistry and some want to see Physics. In fact if my dd would have stayed in public school she would have been required to take Physical Science, and this is at one of the top rated high schools in the state.

Taryn,
I have graduated two from homeschool and both are attending college so I am only speaking from my experience. They didn't use HOD because the advanced programs weren't available when we needed it :( They both attended college as part of junior & senior year of high school. We used Apologia physical science 9th grade, Biology 10 grade, Marine Biology 11th, and College Meterology & College Women's Biology 12. As you see we didn't get to Apologia Chemistry as the math was too much for my dds but the college accepted both transcripts. They have not had a desire to complete Chemistry. I would use Carrie's recommendations as she is so careful in her choices. According to our state the suggestion is 3 or 4 years of science with 1 or 2 years of a lab but dds had 4 or 5 years of science and all but Women's Biology had a lab. As the homeschool parent you can choose what you want dc to learn & know what is best for them. May we all lean on His Wisdom when determining our plans for our dc. Tammy

Thank you both for your responses :D I will check out the PAC biology. I am definately open to any ideas :D

Can anyone out there help me with the questions about my 7th grade son regarding science? I am wanting to order and start school ASAP but I am still unsure about what to do with physical science......

Thank you so much for any help!

For your 7th grader, I would do RevtoRev's EE Standard version and not worry about counting credits. My ds LOVED it, and he says it was his favorite year of science yet (though admittedly he has enjoyed EVERY year of science in HOD  )! EE Physical Science is such a solid program, and the instant feedback on the computer helps ensure dc understand the concepts before moving on. The kit was great - easy to use, everything worked, totally independent. You could always do the advanced part at a later date if you wanted, but for now, I'd just do the standard version and enjoy it! HTH! :D
