Those who have used The Reading Lesson...
Hi, I was just wondering if I could get some feedback from people who have used The Reading Lesson exclusively for phonics. I have been using it with much success, but I am always second-guessing myself! Please reassure me that I am okay with just using that alone!

I just have a minute, but I remembered these neat threads about TRL...

HTH! But don't second guess yourself -it sounds like things are going just fine! Give yourself a break - and some needed and deserved credit.
Enjoy the journey - it slips by so quickly!
In Christ,
Julie

Thanks so much, Julie. That set my mind at ease, reading other mom's experiences!!!

I'm sure you will get plenty of info from the above links but I just wanted to respond. I had been using a cirriculam that was very relaxed when it came to phonics. I liked the theory behind it but the puzzle pieces weren't coming together. We started using TRL and it was all fit together for my dd. we started using it in Jan. and now she's almost done with all of the emerging readers! She did have some prior instruction but my ds is starting from scratch and is also progressing nicely. I like the simplicity and the progression. Something I had to learn was that phonics and grammar are different. Yes, they are intertwined but lets get them reading first!

We used The Reading Lesson alone, and are moving through the emerging readers now with my 5 year old. Things are progressing nicely, without 3-4 years of phonics. HTH!

I'm sure you will be fine although we didn't care for TRL at all. I felt like it didn't make sense in some places and left things out. I don't mind doing more than one year of phonics though, because I like for my children to have a good solid, solid phonetic background.
