Math placement question

Post by cmh » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:58 am

Hello! We started LHFHG with our 6 year old boy before summer started and now we are taking a break over the summer while still working through TRL and some math. The curriculum we used for K was extremely light in math, so we are going through Early Bird math 2A right now hitting the areas he didn't cover in K. So I'm just wondering if he is going to be "behind" in math or if it is best to go through EB 2A/B to have a solid foundation for Singapore 1A. I've heard that Singapore is ahead of most math programs, so he might be right on track even though it says kindergarten on the book :)

Thanks for your help and insight and have a fun summer!

Singapore math is considered a year advanced. One of our sons has always been on a "B" then "A" schedule, as this fits him well. So, last year for example, he did Singapore Math 5B and 6A for the school year. I'd probably either do Earlybird 2B and 1A for the official school year when you resume LHFHG, or I'd finish out Earlybird 2A/2B this summer. You could easily do either, whichever you feel fits your ds best! HTH! :D

Thank you Julie! That is very helpful! I think finishing out 2A this summer and doing 2A/1B for the school year will be a comfortable pace for him. I appreciate your insight.

Enjoy your weekend :D
