Math Placement ?

Post by jkhamell » Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:45 am

Still working on placing my oldest a little bit. (13.5 entering 8th grade in fall)

We have used Singapore Math all the way through 6B.

My oldest (7th grade this past year) did most of Foerester's Algebra I. Now, she did allright but she spent way too much time on math (2hours a day often) and is burnt out. I'm wondering where to go from here. I thought about doing LOF Beginning Algebra over the summer for fun. Do you think I could place her back into DM?? I'm worried the guides won't be out in time. I like videotext, but she doesn't really like watching a video and she does read the text book well and learn her math. Not to mention Video Text is expensive up front. I also like Life Of Fred as a program. I was worried about not having a seperate Geometry program in DM. What are Carrie's thoughts on this in the decision making process of reccomending it?

So my two plans are:
LOF Beginning Algebra and then Start Jacob's Geometry
Or
LOF Begining Algebra and Place her in DM where she places and move forward.
Or
A different plan someone else has thought of.

How much time does DM take most students? How much time does Video Text take?

If I switch HOD to simplify my life as we have discussed in my previous posts - I really want to try to use materials that are reccomended next year. Always adding in my own stuff often has created too much stuff in my family.

It sounds like she has done well with Singapore, so I think I'd do "Discovering Mathematics". I have looked at it quite a bit, and it is very similar in text and format to Singapore Primary Mathematics. :D It is also economical. HTH!
