Narration in Beyond.

Post by kzacarkim »

Hi, I've been trying to get my son to do a narration, but haven't been successful until this week. Since narration is a new thing to me also, I just wanted to get some input to see if we are on the right track. He narrated and I wrote it down:

"Once upon a time there was a man named Squanto. He was coming home but when he got there all his people were gone. He felt sad. All of his people were dead. A sickness caused them to die. The hunter let him live with them."

I really don't know what to expect at this level, so what to you ladies think?
Thank you for your input!

I think that is great. It sounds like he has included the really important parts of the story.

WOW!!! I gotta say, that's great!!! Especially for Squanto (I'm assuming that means your only a couple units in.) We are in Unit 25 with my DD (age 7, almost 8 ). And getting her to narrate is like pulling teeth! She still only says maybe a sentence or two. So I say great job, keep it up!!!

I'm assuming this is for your Marcus Leon (probably 6 now?, looking at your tag)? If so, that is a very good narration for his age. :D I'd compliment him on the order making sense, on having the important things that happened in his narration, and on sharing the mood/feelings of the story. HOORAY! :D I like to give 3 compliments and then 1 thing to work on for next time in my response to my kiddos' narrations. So, I'd after complimenting him, I'd simply encourage him keep trying to add a few more details each time he narrates. (I just use this as an example as this is always something to work on, as more details can always be shared. ) For example, he could share the name of the sickness if he remembered, or the name of the hunter. I think his narration is great! But I thought it might be helpful to share how our feedback can help keep them improving their narrations through the years. Way to go ds, and mama too! :D :D :D HTH!

I think I need to update my signature :D ! Thank you so much for the input ladies! I like the idea of giving some compliments and offering one thing that he can improve!
I know he is capable because he is a talker by nature :D but sometimes he just does not want to do it. Anyway, I'm starting to get hold on how to do this now :D .

Blessings to all :D
