Transcripts

Has anyone out there in HOD land begun to pull together their transcript records for high school? Please share if you have! I'm just working on creating a record of our son's Freshman year.

deltagal,

I have not used HOD for high school yet (will have a freshman in Rev2Rev next year), but I do have a high school junior, so I have been doing his transcript and I have been thinking about my HOD transcript. I did go to a seminar at my state's homeschool convention on "Homeschooling High School" and they had a segment on preparing a transcript. The seminar was put on by HSLDA and they have a lot of great information on their web site (http://www.hslda.org/highschool/academics.asp#TR). I copied one of their templates and made some minor changes to it. This is what I have been using for my oldest's transcript.

I also heard that you should have a brief description of each class. For his Apologia Biology course, I just went to their website and copied the description of the course and pasted it to a Word doc to which I keep adding as he takes more classes. For some of the classes which I made up the curriculum myself, I had to be a little more creative on the description.

Next year for Rev2Rev: I am planning on giving 1 credit for American History, 1 credit for Bible (we added to the Bible), 1 credit for science, 1 credit for English (this will include R&S grammar, writing course, dictation and lit study), 1 credit for Spanish, 1 credit for Algebra (VideoText), and possibly 0.5 credit for music (haven't decided on that yet.) He also does art classes, so I was trying to decide if I could somehow combine the composer study and the art classes into 0.5 credit of "Fine Arts" without adding the extra composer books suggested for making it credit-worthy.

The most difficult part for some subjects is giving a grade. Algebra has graded assignments and tests, and so does science. This rest are a little more subjective.

I would love to hear how others are doing this.

Just looking down the road, I wanted to let you know after MTMM, HOD will be coming out with high school guides that help with transcripts in the way of course descriptions, counting credits, etc. I know that doesn't help now :? , but I wanted to reassure you that once you get to the guides after MTMM, HOD will be helping out with this! :D

Julie,
Just a quick question....with the extensions, didn't I hear that MTMM would be high school worthy?

Thanks,
Sherry

Well, I just finished my son's transcript. We used teascript (online). He graduated May 5th. However, he didn't have the opportunity to use HOD. My oldest daughter starts high school this year with REV2REV, so I am just beginning hers.

Mike and Carrie and I have been brainstorming and discussing so very many things about the next guide! :D It is exciting to be talking of high school (and at least for ME, a bit frightening as that means I am going to have a child actually IN high school very soon  ). For Mike and Carrie, it will be old hat (Cole, their oldest ds has been in high school for awhile now). :D Carrie has such an amazing plan laid out, and bit by bit, it is coming together. She really is an incredible planner, and so very good at seeing the big picture of high school spread over 4 years. I know she will be sharing things as solid decisions are made, but all I can say right now is I am feeling an incredible sense of relief - like stress slipping away or a burden being lifted off me - about teaching high school. I have always been a teacher by trade and even spent enough time and money getting my masters in education, but I have still been SCARED about teaching high school. There, I said it. Confession shared. So, all of you out there who have some fears and misgivings about homeschooling through high school, rest assured I am your total advocate shouting out any possible things I am worried about as we go. Carrie is so kind, patient, and thorough - and she is taking all of those things into account. I just want to assure you - HOD will be your friend to help you through this. Together, we can do this!!! :D And also, I am very excited about what is to come. Good things are on the horizon, and the great news is, they are doable! :D :D :D Thanks for asking, and I'll let Carrie know tidbits of what is to come eventually are coveted! :D
